July 6, 2007

Sharon and Family,
This message is given with love to you and praise to our Father-in-heaven. It is with complete confidence that we all know the resting place for Dwayne. It is through his consistent life for Christ that he now sees him face to face. Dwayne has always been a man that we could admire. Always kind, compassionate and filled with love for all people.
I remember the time that your family opened the doors of your home to my family during a vacation trip that we took back in 1984. Dwayne along with all of you treated us like family. On another occasion I remember a time we were out in your front yard. We were in town for Wayne Hammond's wedding. Cheryl was giving neck rubs to all sitting there. I was watching in horror as each one went through the pain. I was the last in line and decided not to be the next victim (just kidding Cheryl). But there was Dwayne egging me on and saying "oh come on Lonnie. You can handle it."
I will always have fond memories of Dwayne. He was one of the best men I have ever met. His life is an example to other men that came across his path.
My family sends their love. I wish that Tammy and I could have attended the memorial. I know that there must have been great sorrow, but surely mixed with joy since you know where Dwayne is.
We pray that your hearts are filled with the peace of God.

Dear Sharon and family,

How hard it is on those "left behind" when our loved ones leave this life that we know on earth, but how precious to be assured that some day we will all be united again! Dwayne is truly healed and will never know a pain or heartache again! His joy will be ours too when we all meet him in Heaven around the throne of God!

Many years of friendship and love with your family can never be wiped away, and we will always hold in our hearts the precious times we have been together.

May God's awesome presence surround each of you at this difficult time!

Much love to you all from us.

Dear Sharon and Family, I worked with Dwayne on the IUS program at Boeing. We looked forward together to retirement after the program was ended. I also graduated from Puyallup, the year after Dwayne, which provided another link in our lives. Dwayne will be missed, but God must have other plans for him. Our hearts go out to you and your family.

Dear Sharon -
Dwayne will be greatly missed in the music department. He was such a special friend and fellow musician. Such a warm caring spirit and he had great stories to share. I look forward to sharing music he loved at the memorial. He has indeed fought the good fight and is victorious.

God Bless ~ Jim Stevens

Dear Sharon and Family,
As Christians, we know the angels rejoice when a family member goes to be with the Lord, but as humans, we're selfish and we don't want to give our loved ones up prematurely. This is true of Dwayne, especially for the man he was and the example he gave to us all - - He was an incredible man in every aspect of his life!

I remember as a young girl sitting on the front row of the church watching him play his trumpet in the orchestra. You could see him lean over to Wes, whisper something, and the two of them start laughing. Only they knew what was so funny, but I’ll never forget the smile Dwayne had on his face, it was a smile I’ll always remember because he gave it to everyone freely. I knew every time the church doors opened Dwayne and Sharon would be there, supporting, loving, working, and caring for everyone - - it's part of them.

Sharon, I thank you and Dwayne for the Christians example, for being Godly parents, and for the friendship I’ve treasured for many years. You and your family are loved so much!

With much love and respect,
Lori Betschel

Dear Sharon and Family,
These few words on a page could never express the sorrow, love, and admiration I feel for you and the impression Dwayne made on my life. He was more than just a friend, he was like a second father.

From my earliest childhood memories; through the Royal Ranger years to the many years of trumpet lessons, Dwayne was always there, as a mentor and an example for a young boy to look up to. The consistancy he lived with his family and God has left a lasting impression. Part of who I am today is because of the example he was and the many hours he poured in to my life.

He will continue to live on through all of us and soon we will all see each other face to face.

I love you all,
Rick Betschel

Dear Sharon and family,

As I knew Dwayne, he was a true friend over many years even though we worked together for only a few of those years. We came together when he returned to Anaheim to work with me in our little project office that was humorously known as "BAPPO", or "BITS AND PIECES PROJECT OFFICE". We were given this name because we would tackle any and all jobs that were small but very important to our National Defense.

Everyone in our close-knit little group was a top notch engineer, so Dwayne fit in perfectly. We could always depend on him to go after the toughest challenges and come out with very detailed and accurate solutions.

I appreciated his cool and steady demeanor, and especially respected his calm response to frustrations with the simple "Oh Stab"--his personal version of an expletive.

Even though he is physically gone from our presence, we know he will continue to be with us in spirit. Our sincerest sympathy to you, Sharon, and the rest of the family.

Sharon,
We are glad your family has been a part of our lives over the years. We will miss Dwayne playing the trumpet at "Sunday Night Revival" as well as our visits together. Dwayne was respected by those who knew him at a distance and those who knew him well...a man of honor.

Well I wish I could be there for the celebration of Dwayne's life. For the years I knew him, I have great memories of SeaSide bumper cars, his cool electronic gadgets, detailed stories, his deer sprinkler at the Puyallup house, and many other great memories. I am blessed to have been a part of his life for the summer visits with the family. I am new to the family and I know I will only learn more from the people close to him of his greatness. With Love,

Dwayne was a wonderful person to know. I kind of grew up with him in my younger years. He was always kind and caring. I'll never forget his trumpet playing in the orchestra in the church in Puyallup, Wn. where his Dad was the pastor. We had some good jam sessions as we called them. Our sincere sympathies go out to Sharon and Sheri and their families.

I feel honored to have had him in my life and look forward to the day I will see him again, healthy and strong playing beautiful music. I love you so much!

I was sadened and surprised to learn of Dwayne's passing especially since he took such good care of himself. He was an excellent example of a man who was committed to God and his family. Dwayne was also an excellent musician and I have many great memories from playing with him in the orchestra at Puyallup First Assembly of God and later the band at Destiny Christian Center. I stood next to him for many years and he was an excellent musician, a true levite. Even though I played the lowly tenor sax he helped me often with my part. I still miss the good old days playing in the orchestra with Pastor Hartley at Puyallup Fist Assembly of God. I have never felt the annointing of God on a group like it was with that group! We had some amazing performances :-)

Dwayne always had a great attitude, sense of humor, and a smile on his face. I will miss him.

Lori, Sharon and family - you have been such a blessing to me since I met you in college, please know you are in my prayers during this time. Dwayne's earthly legacy and blessing are evident in the beautiful family he helped create here on earth - I am so glad God placed us at SPU at the same time :) Hugs Lori, I miss you! I'm so glad we will get to spend eternity with our dads... Love, Meloni

I did not know Dwayne personally, however, he raised an amazing family and the stories that were passed along to me at work in regards to him leads me to believe this man was 100% class act. May his name live in memory forever!

I was very much saddened to hear of Dwaynes passing, but I am heartened by the verse in II Thessalonians 4, which says something about us not sorrowing as others which have no hope. I am thankful for the hope in Christ. Dwayne was instrumental in my coming to God.

Dear Sharon and all the Family,
I can't help but think of the song our choir in California used to sing. Dwayne would blare out on the lines: "I heard a thousand trumpets sounding out His praises, telling the story how He came to earth to die. I heard a million voices praise the name of Jesus, singing in God's choir in the sky." Now it is reality. Thank you for your special friendship throughout the years. Love to all of you.

Dear Sharon, Cheryl, Daryl and Lori. My heart goes out to you and you are in my prayers. Dwayne will be missed. I can remember being a little afraid of him when I was little because he was so tall and had a deep voice. But I soon figured out his bark was worse than his bite. I still can remember the night my parents and Sharon & Dwayne played rook all night. When they walked outside it was morning. We had some wonderful times together and have wonderful memories that I will cherish always.
