Marc Goetz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barton Family Funeral Service of Edmonds on Jan. 31, 2026.
Marc Goetz passed away at home on January 6, 2026. He was born on November 5, 1952, in Coupeville, Washington on Whidbey Island to Jack "Hap" and Anne Goetz. He was raised in Oak Harbor, a place that always remained part of who he was. He graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1971 and went on to earn a degree in Economics from the University of Washington.

As a young adult, Marc split his time between fishing in Alaska during summers, skiing during the winter months, and exploring much of the US - a life that reflected his love of the outdoors, his independence, and his comfort with hard work. Those experiences shaped the steady, capable person he became and remained a source of pride throughout his life.

Early in his adult life, Marc found an idyllic lakeside lot on Martha Lake - a place that captured his imagination and heart. Over the years, he steadily worked toward his dream of building a home on the lake, investing his time, care, and energy into both the property and the surrounding community. He took pride not only in the home he built, but in bettering the Martha Lake neighborhood and contributing to the place he loved.

Marc spent his career doing something he loved - building custom homes. He found deep satisfaction in creating spaces where families could build their lives. Known for his big-picture thinking and ability to navigate complex challenges, Marc approached his work with vision, patience, and quiet determination - qualities that reflected who he was.

In more recent years, Marc embraced the opportunity to travel, especially when it meant time with family. He visited Thailand, Iceland, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland - experiences that brought him joy, broadened his perspective, and created memories that will be cherished by those who shared those journeys with him.

Marc shared 44 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maureen. Together they built a life centered on family, dedication, and quiet strength. He was a devoted father to his children, Karlyn (Lucas Ansley), John (Michelle Ocheltree), and Kristen, offering steady presence, guidance, and support throughout their lives. He was a proud grandfather to his granddaughters, Phoebe and Scarlett Ansley, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffrey Goetz, and mother-in-law, Rose Marie Silliman.

Marc was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jan Boush.

Nothing brought Marc greater happiness than simply being with the people he loved. He found joy in life's simple moments - making Dutch babies for breakfast, skiing in the mountains, camping trips, afternoons on the golf course, backyard games of fetch with the dogs, sneaking them extra treats, and evenings gathered around a bonfire with s'mores. He knew these were the moments that mattered most.

Marc will be remembered for his kindness, his steady presence, and his deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the homes he built, the community he helped shape, and in the strong foundation he created for those who loved him - reflected in the countless memories that will be carried forward.

A Celebration of Life will be held on February 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Rosehill Community Center in Mukilteo, Washington. All who knew him are welcome.
