Harriet Wright Obituary

Harriet Jean Wright

September 30, 1928 - May 22, 2025

Tacoma, Washington - Beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Harriet Jean Wright passed away at her home on May 22,2025, at the age of 96.

She was born on Sept 30,1928 to Cethie and Thomas Spencer and was a graduate of Lincoln High School. She married James Wright in June 1947 and they resided in Seattle while he attended U of W. After graduation they moved back to Tacoma where she resided for the rest of her life.

She was active in the community, holding offices in PEO, a Christian organization dedicated to the education of women and a lively member of the Book club that didn't read books. She enjoyed boating and was a 60 year member of the Tacoma Yacht Club, where she served as past president of Shipmates, TYC's women's auxiliary.

She was also a longtime member and choir member of First Christian Church where she was also employed as church secretary and wedding coordinator until her retirement.

After that she and Jim took many boating trips around the Sound and every other year a trip to Alaska. She loved fishing and had a special pole and song she sang to the fish. As she always caught more fish than anyone else, we assumed it was her lovely singing voice that attracted them.

She is survived by her 5 children, Jeanne, Joanne, Mike, Judy, Janna, her 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her many friends. She will be missed.

Harriet was a neighbor, a good friend of my mom's, an energetic lady, and a wise woman. She made a difference and she will be missed.

She was a wonderful Brownie and Scout leader - always kind. Harriet, my dearest friend“s mother, was a gem and will be remembered that way by many.

I knew Harriet through the Book Club (we did read some books) and an antique class group. She was smart, funny and enjoyed
life. I know she is missed by everyone who knew her.
