HELEN SAMPSON Obituary

Helen Sampson Helen went to be with the Lord after a short illness. Even at 85, age was just a number Helen never let slow her down. She loved living independently, dancing, playing cards, travel, visiting with friends, and being with family. Helen lived her life in Tacoma, graduating from Stadium High and CWU. Her work included Johnson's Candy Company, secretary at Western State Hospital, and Orting Soldiers Home. Helen was blessed to have most of her family living near, and her greatest joy was being at family events. Helen was predeceased by her son Gordon Bowman, daughter Vickie Skinner, brothers William, Robert Bruce, and Douglas Pooley, and her parents William and May Pooley. She is survived by her son Gary Bowman and daughter Gail Gese (C. Robert), sister Sheila Moe (Les), sister-in-law Sally Pooley, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. A viewing will be at New Tacoma Cemetery Thursday, Feb. 16, 12-8pm. A private graveside service will be Friday, followed by a memorial service, 5pm, at Abundant Life Fellowship, 5917 S Thompson Ave, Tacoma, WA 98408.

Mom,
I think of you often. Miss you more and more. So miss our nightly phone calls. I could talk to you about everything. God has not sent someone to talk with me so believe it or not. I don't talk to anyone since you left. Can't wait to get to heaven and talk with you and Vickie. Good memories.

Helen seved as Secretary for the Washington Federation of State Employees when I was first elected to WFSE's state executive board. She deeply cared about the people served by state workers, and deeply cared about WFSE's members. After her retirement she joined the Retired Public Employees Council of Washington. It was always fun to sit with her at RPEC conventions and talk about the old days. Helen, you are missed. Thank you for being my friend!

Remembering all the fun times with Helen. Lake Tanwax, trips in "THE BUS", enjoying the sun and playing cards at Sun Lake, Reno and trips to local casinos. Hearing about her "adventures". She never missed a beat. Lived life to the fullest. Helen was a special lady.

Helen was an inspiration to me with her political activism, love of activity, and political fire as union sisters. Rest in peace, Helen. See you in heaven! Becky

What can I say? So many memories spending time with my cousins when we were younger. I loved the parties in the awesome party room and always think about the yellow school bus. Helen, I always looked forward to seeing you at the family events. I am so glad that you were able to come to my big birthday party and to see you at Gail's party. You will be dearly missed by myself and my family. We will remember and love you forever.

Helen will be greatly missed. I remember spending time with her and my cousins-Gary, Vickie, Gordy and Gail growing up. I always loved parties out in the barn and going down to the creek on the property at her house. I am looking forward to greeting her in heaven with a big hug when I see her next but she will be missed until then. Steve Harris

I would like to thank you, her family and friends, for being kind to my mom and helping her to live life to the fullest. I feel blessed she did not have a debilitating illness or have to live in a nursing home which she would have hated. To think that just 3 weeks prior to passing she was able to drive to the Eagles and play poker with friends is comforting. She loved her independence and was getting depressed about not being able to do all the things she wanted. She complained about getting tired easily. So I know as difficult as this is we can all rejoice that her illness was short and her passing was peaceful and in her family home. Thank you everyone.
