JANIS PARKS Obituary

Janis Lee Parks Janis was born on April 17, 1969, in Tacoma, WA. She went to be with the Lord on October 15, 2009. She was 40. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1987, she attended Washington State University for one year, then returned to Tacoma to care for her ailing mother, Donna Parks. She continued to live with and care for her until 1996, when Donna died. Janis also lived with a close friend for a few years and helped care for her friend's daughters. She loved these girls as if they were her own. She moved to Ocean Shores, CA for a year, then came back to move in with her father in Gig Harbor. She remained there and helped to care for him until she died. Throughout her school years Janis was an outstanding student and athlete. She maintained a high GPA and excelled in basketball, volleyball and softball. She worked as a server and hostess for many years at Shari's, Olive Garden, and Red Lobster. Janis was dearly loved by her co-workers and customers alike. Gifted artistically, she created many fun colorful drawings, and much of her artwork was prominently shown on the menu display boards of the restaurants where she worked. Known for being upbeat, animated, and cheerful, Janis maintained a positive attitude even in difficult circumstances. Her personality brightened the mood wherever she went. It was her nature to put others before herself and she essentially dedicated her life to serve others. Janis personified selflessness. Possessing a strong faith in Jesus Christ, Janis prayed for and consistently encouraged her friends and family. She is survived by her father, Jim Parks, and her brothers Steve, Todd, Philip, and Jordan. She never married and had no children. Janis was loved by many, and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Friday, October 23rd at Haven of Rest Funeral Home, Gig Harbor. Arrangements by Haven of Rest. Please sign the online guestbook at www.havenrest.com .

Memories and Condolences
for JANIS PARKS

Not sure what to say?

My deepest condolences to Janis Parks beloved family members and especially to her Father and to my long time Boeing family member..."JIMBO" James Parks.

Jim often shared many stories of his daughter with us. Jim was always a very proud Daddy and enjoyed sharing his stories with everyone.

Both Janis and Jimmy shared their God given talents of artistic creative gift for drawing, cartooning, writing and telling humorsly funny stories.

It was always "A GOOD BOEING WORK DAY" when Jim would share some of Janis's drawings and stories with us at our workplace.
We shall take comfort in our heavely Father's promise that as a believer in Christ Jesus, we shall meet again after our brief gift of life here on earth has past.
Let it be known that Janis's brief life spent here on Earth...was a truly a blessing and to know with comfort, that JANIS PARKS MADE OUR WORLD A MUCH BETTER PLACE TO LIVE.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.
Rest in Peace Janis We all will miss you!

Janice is one of the greatest people I have ever known. She was so warm, kind and giving of herself. "Janis personified selflessness" YES SHE DID! If only more of us were like yer! I miss you Janis! My heart goes out to her friends and family.

Janis,
I will always remember your smile and great sense of humor. In Jr. High & High School I cannot remember a day that went by where I did not see you smiling. You were a great friend and I will truely miss you. God has an amazing and beautiful angel and I know you will always be looking down on us. My thoughts & Paryers go out to your family. You have been taken from us too soon, but I know GOD needs you now and we will see each other again. Thanks for being a good friend and always making everyone laugh and smile!

Janis possessed a gift for sketching. Once, on an algebra test, she was totally stumped. Much to my delight, instead of completing the algebra problem, she drew a self-portrait, showing herself sitting at her desk, leaning over the test, and sweating buckets! I literally laughed out loud (and gave her credit for solving the problem). Janis blessed all of our lives in many ways and she will be missed.

I will always remember Janis' smile, how she could always enter a room and brighten it up with her positive energy, I worked with Janis at Shari's, she was so caring, beautiful, and loving, there was nothing she would do for anyone. She has a special place in my heart:) Tell Gary I said "hi"

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief

Janis played fastpitch with our daughter, Jackye, for the Metro Parks 'Angels' Team for many years. We also coached the team for several years. Our daughter also passed away 3 years ago and I know they are both truly with the 'Angels' now. We really enjoyed Janis, she was always a lot of fun on the team. We saw her several times recently working at Red Lobster and she always gave us a big hug and smile. I know she will truly be missed. We would like to thank her family for sharing her with us all. God Bless You All.

Janis, As soon as I heard that you were gone to make heaven even more exciting, I thought of you and your 100 watt smile. I'm so glad that you were a part of my high school years. Playing softball and getting help from you in Biology (where I was the ONLY senior in the class among juniors) made being the outsider easier. You always had an outstanding outlook on life and you will forever be missed. It's funny how people touch your life and after 20 plus years of not seeing you, I still remember you in a very special way. I will continue to pray for your family and Lori Martell. Tell God to save a mitt for me!

Janis, you always looked out for me at Stewart and Lincoln...and I always looked up to you. I am deeply saddened by your loss, my friend and girlie. And, I am devastated to hear that we will no longer have your physical presence; but I am definite that our heavenly Lord needed your energy, spirit, love and heart to fight from beyond...and you will be helping out there too.

All of my prayers and love to the family, and all who have had the amazing pleasure of being touched by your soul...Always in my heart and mind

Janis, I will miss you, your smile and all the memories we shared back in the day. It saddens me that god took you at such a young age of 40. When I saw you for the first time at Stewart Junior high I not only noticed how beautiful you looked but you had so much energy and were always full of life. You were so talented at so many things and your drawings may have been the best but my favorite was how damn athletic you were. I still remember how frustrating it was not to be able to beat my girlfriend at Basketball, Tennis or whatever sport you challenged me at, I had to try to act like I was letting you win sometimes but we both knew you were the best. It has been many years since we last spoke but I’m sure you lived your life to the fullest like you always did, goodbye and I will miss you.
You’re Friend, Scott

Aunt Janis you truely were an Angel here on Earth. You brought smiles and joy to everyone. You are the most selfless, most caring, most loving, and most precious person I have ever met. You loved my sisters and I as if we were your own. You cared for us and you taught us. You always knew how to brighten my sad days and you always brought more joy to my joyful days. I remember every goofy thing you've done and thats what keeps me smiling. I feel your presences and I hear you auntie. I hear you saying dont be sad i love you and im home now. I love you auntie and ill be seeing you.

Sad to hear of Jani-girl's passing. So young. I knew her mother, Donna, well. Janis, like her mother, was always so concerned for others and very caring. Now, they are dancing on streets of gold together in heaven. We will meet again!

I define joy as a sustained sense of well-being and internal peace - a connection to what matters - Oprah Winfrey

My sweetest, my kindest, my ever-present friend....I miss your voice - I miss knowing your hearing my voice...I will weep for you for my own selfishness but I will not find fault in that for it is the joy of us, our family, our lives our history our every amazing moment shared.... obstacle overcome and adventure taken - that spills out of my soul as tears for I am so very grateful to have had this beautiful friendship...If I reach higher or obtain more in this life it is because I stood on the shoulders of one joyful Giant! My girl Jani Parks! I am forever in your debt....don’t forget to save room for me at the big table I would like the seat right next to yours....I love you Janis!
