Jaxon Abalahin Obituary

Jaxon O. Abalahin Of Port Orchard, after a brave 2 1/2 year battle against a rare disease, passed away peacefully surrounded by his parents and family on October 6, 2008. Jaxon was 8 years old. Born April 17, 2000 in Davao City, Mindanao, Philippines, Jaxon was adopted in October 2001 by his parents, Oscar and Paula Abalahin. Jax was a loving and caring son with beautiful brown eyes that lit up a room and a smile that melted your heart. His kind, charming, and sincere personality made him truly endearing. A student at Sunnyslope Elementary, and later at East Port Orchard Elementary, he made many friends with both students and faculty. Jaxon was a parishioner at St Gabriel Church and also served as "Chief for a Day" at the Port Orchard Police Dept. His courageous battle against SSPE, a rare measles-related disease, led to the formation of a non-profit organization, Jaxon's Cure. His courage and strength is the driving force behind this organization, and his spirit will allow it to live on. Jax touched so many lives in his short time with us and he continues to affect people in amazing ways. Jax will be missed as he is loved, greatly, and his legacy will live on. Jaxon is survived by his parents Oscar and Paula, grandmothers Regina Hettick and Marina Abalahin, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Funeral Mass will be held October 15, 2008 at 1:00 pm at St Gabriel Church, Port Orchard, with burial services at 3:00 at Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor. Reception following from 4:00-6:00 at St Gabriel Church. Please join us for any or all parts or our celebration of Jaxon's life. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the PICU at Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, and to celebrate Jaxon's life, donations to SSPE research can be made to: Jaxon's Cure, PO Box 152, Port Orchard, WA 98366. Arrangements by Haven of Rest, Gig Harbor. Jaxon's hope is that no other child and their family should have to go through what they did. Please visit www.jaxonscure.org for more information on SSPE.
