Tacoma, Washington - John William Kanton – beloved son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather – passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Tacoma General Hospital surrounded by family. He was 67 years old.
John was born on Sept. 21, 1954. He grew up in the Parkland/Spanaway area, attending Spanaway Elementary, Bethel Junior High School, and Bethel High School, where he played baseball and was the starting quarterback on the football team before graduating in 1973.
At the age of 15, John met his soulmate, Faye Marie Phillips. John and Faye were together for 55 years, including 45 years of marriage (1976-2022). Together, they had two sons – Justin (42) and Brett (39) – enjoyed numerous trips throughout the western U.S. and lived in their home that John built by hand in south Spanaway for more than 40 years.
In 1986, John founded Cascade RV Repair, which he built from the ground up and has been successful for more than three decades due to his tireless work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. Over the following 30+ years, John and Faye also developed several additional residential and commercial properties, including the Cascade Commercial Park.
Throughout his life, John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He remained active throughout his life, playing on multiple softball teams in his 30s and 40s, skiing, golfing, and restoring his award-winning 1967 Camaro. He was also a lifelong fan of the Mariners and Seahawks, despite his better judgement.
John is survived by his wife Faye, sons Justin and Brett, daughter-in-law, Kortnie, two grandsons, Ryker and Ethan, and eldest sister, Marcia Willis. He is proceeded in death by his father, John Kanton, mother, Shirley Feddersen, stepfather, Bill Feddersen, and sister, Debbie Wichern
A celebration of John's life will be held on Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m. at the Fir Lane Memorial Park Chapel (924 176th St E Spanaway, WA 98387).
