JOSEPH SEEBERGER Obituary

Joseph William Seeberger 9/18/1932 - 7/18/2018 Joseph Seeberger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary "Kay", and children Julie Anderson (Jon, d.), Janet Bryant (Mike), and John (Jill), as well as 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Seth, Lauren, Spencer, Parker, and Mackenzie. He is also survived by one sibling, Raymond Seeberger. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings Irma, Mary, and Richard. Joe was born in Glen Ullin, North Dakota, and his family moved to Tacoma when he was in the third grade. He attended Visitation School and graduated Class of 1950 from Bellarmine Preparatory. After graduation he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad until he was drafted into the Army in 1952. He served for 2 years - 13 months in Korea. Upon discharge he returned to the railroad, where he worked until 1957 when he joined the Tacoma Fire Department. His career with the Fire Department spanned 30 years until his retirement in 1988 at the rank of Battalion Chief. He was an exceptional athlete, excelling at football, basketball, baseball, and then slow pitch, playing well into his forties for the Fire Department. He also golfed, bowled, played handball, and was an enthusiastic fan of high school, college, and professional sports. Joe loved his family. He spent hours building his family a cabin at Phillips Lake, where we could all be together enjoying the outdoors during the day and playing cards or games at night around the large kitchen table. He will be remembered for his quick wit and engaging smile, and his extremely patient demeanor. He was happiest when he was around family and friends, and he and Kay enjoyed a loving and happy marriage filled with laughter and a lasting friendship. Joe was an avid gardener, growing vegetables and constantly working to keep his yard tidy and green. Upon retirement, he took up cross stitching as a hobby and gifted many family and friends with a framed picture of Father Christmas or Guardian Angels for his grandchildren. His most prized work was a picture of The Last Supper. His presence will be greatly missed by us all, but we are blessed with so many loving memories. The family wish to extend a special thanks to Dr. Chris Chen and the oncology staff at Tacoma General. Their wonderful care and attention was greatly appreciated. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 2018, at 10:00 am at Holy Disciples Catholic Church, 10425 187th Street E., Puyallup 98374, with a reception immediately following at the church. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers memorials be given to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please share memories and condolences at www.edwardsmemorial.com

I met Joseph when he worked for the fire department, what a wonderful man. He will be missed. When someone you love becomes a memory their memory becomes a treasure. My sincere sympathy to the Seeberger Family.
