Kathleen Brownfield Obituary

Kathleen Sue Brownfield, of Gig Harbor, Washington, formerly of Lakewood, WA, entered her eternal home in heaven on January 5, 2026, at the age of 84, embraced by God's everlasting love. Born to Les and Marion Johnson on July 6, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington. Kathleen was a proud mother, grandmother, partner, and friend. She lived a life filled with adventure, kindness, and an enduring spirit of curiosity and compassion.

Kathleen's early years in Tacoma shaped her into a woman of grace, humor, and quiet strength. She graduated from Clover Park High School, then began her professional life as a stewardess for Northwest Orient Airlines, a role that sparked her lifelong love of travel. Over the years, she journeyed to all 7 continents, scaling some of the most remarkable peaks, including Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, Everest Base Camp in Nepal, and Machu Picchu in Peru. Her adventures reflected not only her love for exploration but also a belief that life is meant to be embraced with courage and wonder.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Kathleen brought warmth and laughter to everyone around her. She was known for her friendly smile, gentle demeanor, and an uncanny ability to find joy in life's smallest moments. Though always the picture of poise, she was also a mischievous prankster who brightened any gathering. Her generosity extended far beyond her home - she was a proud member of the Women's Oregon Trail Riders Association and a dedicated volunteer for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital.

During her later life, Kathy's daughter, Cynthia, and sister Dee Dee, provided constant care and support, while her partner, Sam, also provided loving care and support.

Kathleen is survived by her loving partner, Sam Spayd, her sister, Dee Dee Carlson, her brother David Johnson, her daughter Cyndi Brownfield, her son, Patrick Brownfield, her grandson Benjamin Brownfield (Cyndi), and granddaughter, Finley Brownfield (Patrick). She was preceded in death by her brother, Mick Johnson, and her parents, Les and Marion Johnson.

Kathy was my sister-in-law many years ago.
I have fond memories of how she graciously welcomed me into the Johnson family.
I played a bit of tennis with her back then and it soon became evident she was much better than me.
Rest in peace, dear one.
I will always remember how you and yours were part of some good years back then.

It's sad to see her pass. Kathy was a popular, friendly, and good-natured member of our Clover Park High School class of 1959.

So sad to see this. Condolences to the family. Our families were neighbors when we were kids in Lakewood. Good memories . RIP Kathy.
