KEVIN McDEVITT Obituary

Kevin John McDevitt Age 64, passed away peacefully at home on October 5th, 2013, after a courageous 7-year battle with cancer. His wife Kristin, Nigel and Lily, his devoted dogs, Donna Morris and Elbert Morris were by his side. Kevin was born on June 8, 1949 to Dorothy Frances McDevitt and Daniel Eugene McDevitt in Tacoma, Washington. He devoted 30+ years to a satisfying and successful career at Weyerhaeuser. His professional teams loved working for him because he was a great teacher and mentor, and took great pride in their success. He was passionate, committed to making a difference, loved to have fun and win! He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Brian McDevitt. He is survived by his wife Kristin, two adoring dogs Nigel and Lily, and his brother Mike and Denise McDevitt, their children, Adelle, Andy, and nieces and nephew, Ella, 8, Blake 3, Arabella 1, his sister Maureen and Dave Ryniec as well as dear friends Oona and Philip Austin, Shellrae Garnes, Lisa and Steve Olsen and many other loving relatives and friends. Kevin was a strong, kind, smart, fair, funny, compassionate man who loved to have fun, and above all a very courageous man. He stood up for the underdog and found great peace for himself in nature enjoying fly fishing and golfing. The most significant of Kevin's accomplishments was how deeply he loved and adored his wife Kristin. Kevin was a blessing to all who knew him. A celebration of his life will be on Fox Island.

Kevin could always lift me up with his smile and his baby blue eyes. He had a way of making a person feel so much worth. There is a big hole in the world now. At our last reunion he (jokingly) said,"We have to have these reunions a little more often. People are dropping like flies!" Oh please God, we never thought it would be him. The world has lost a valuable piece of its puzzle. I'll never forget you. :)

Steve and I have known Kev since we moved into Franklin Lofts 14 years ago. He was the most endearing, unexpected best friend we have never imagined finding. We know he is out of pain though the loss of Kevin always being there with a call or text, very difficult to accept. When he found his angel Kristin everything would be ok. She was forever at his side comforting Kevin through his final breath. No question, McDevitt knew he was loved greatly.

My heart so heavy. God speed Kevin. I miss you. xo

Kevin made such a deep and lasting impression to everyone he met with his direct, honest, and loving ways. I don't think he ever met a stranger or at least not for very long. The memories and laughter we shared together as a family will always be with us and never forgotten. We loved you as our “son” and you brought so much happiness to all of us who knew what a wonderful human being you were to everyone. May your journey now be without pain and filled with peace. Forever in our hearts.

My deepest regrets to Kevin's family and particularly to you Kristin. Over the past few years, I have had numerous opportunities to talk with Kevin and he often shared his love for you and how you have helped him cope with his battle with Cancer. Kevin amazed me in his having such a positive outlook for the future as he dealt with the pain and suffering associated with the cancer. We all loved Kevin and now we wish him peace.
