I worked with Leo at St. Regis from 1975 to 1982. Leo was the head lumber grader when I worked in the planer mill. I remember him as being the most knowledgeable person I ever knew about lumber. I was just a common laborer who pulled lumber off the chain after it was graded and stamped. Leo would often walk down the chain and talk to the the guys working along the chain. I learned a lot from him about proper lumber dimensions, moisture content, lumber species; i.e., Western Hemlock, Douglas Fir, Cedar, etc., lumber wane, and so much more. Most importantly he was always friendly and kind to everybody. He was a really great guy.

My condolences to Leo's family. I worked with Leo from 1970 to 1981 in Planet C for the St. Regis Paper Company, Tacoma sawmill. Leo was a lumber grader and the head grader by the time sawmill operations ceased. He was a role model and mentor to me. I could get Leo riled up from time to time but he never gave up on being a positive influence to me. Leo was one of the most knowledgeable people I've known in the lumber business. I have many memories of Leo, have thought of him often and considered him as a father figure. He made the world a better place. Fred De Jarlais

Dear Pat...So sorry to hear today of the passing of our dear Leo. Have been thinking of both of you today and all the many years we spent bowling and browsing at the bowling alley. You two were such wonderful friends and I have always missed you all these years. I hope that you will find some comfort in the coming years without Leo and that you find some time to reflect and think of all the good old days....My thoughtful memories are going to you and your family...Sheila Yager
