We all have mentors in our careers and I considered Lee one of mine, where I learned how to hone my skills and learned what it takes to be come a successful architect and leader. My family and I have fond memories of time at his home in Puyallup, with Pat and their two sons, along with other events during the time I worked at Merritt+Pardini Architects. Sincere condolences to Pat, Evan, Joel and the rest of the family on his passing, he will be missed.

Lee was the best boss and mentor in my architectural career! As a young architect he found me a desk near his office and called me his Italian stallion, always ready with a smile, positive input and a firm pat on the back. He will be missed and remembered fondly. Hugs to his family. Justin Martino

I know there are no words to express the loss of a loved one. As you think about LeRoy in the days ahead know that "God is near to all those calling on him." - Psalms 145:18

Like a loving father who tenderly removes pain and dries their child's eyes, God will help and strengthen you during this difficult time. God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds at Psalm 147:3. Sincerest Sympathies to your family.

I worked for Lee at Merritt+Pardini from 1998 through 2003. As a young architect Lee was always willing to engage with me, and teach me how to design and communicate with clients.

Lee was the master of the fat marker presentation. He could stand before a crowd with nothing more than a black Sharpie and a easel notepad. He would ask questions of the crowd and design their building in front of their eyes. The next day it we would be stuck trying to make sure we could build the thing he designed.

I have many fond memories of Lee and I am sad to hear that he has stopped dazzling onlookers with his sketching expertise. Thank you Lee for your investment into my career, it has served me well.

The projects we collaborated on include: Lakewood City Hall, urban design for the 520 corridor (resulting in the lids over the freeway to reconnect neighborhoods), additions to Federal Way High School, the Puyallup and Sumner Sounder stations, and early concepts for the Tacoma Convention Center.
