Mark Hurdelbrink Obituary

Mark Edward Hurdelbrink
March 31, 1967 - February 28, 2022
University Place, Washington - Mark Hurdelbrink passed away on February 28, 2022 at the age of 54. Mark graduated from Mount Tahoma High School, Central Washington University, and obtained his law degree from Seattle University in 1995. He has practiced law since 1995 and opened his own private practice in 2012. Mark and Karen married in 1992 and started their family in 1996. He has always been a proud father to his daughters: Katlyn (26), Kelly (24), Susan (22), and son Linus (dog, 16).
Family was everything to Mark. No matter what was going on in his professional life, his family always came first. Mark lit up every room he came in. He was the guy who befriended everyone. An avid sports fan who could be found at the horse track, yelling at the TV, and of course, watching the Boston Red Sox.
He leaves behind his mother Kate (Hal) Amundson, father Ron Hurdelbrink, and sisters: Cindy Tompkins, Karen Miller, Deb (Rob) Meyerson, Beth (Randy Hudson) Kilen, and Susan (Alan) Condiotty, his large extended family, and many friends who loved him dearly.
There will be a celebration of life for Mark on Sunday, March 13th from 1-5 PM at the Lakewood Elks Lodge (6313 75th St. W. Lakewood, WA 98499). All are welcome to join us as we honor Mark's life.

I am really going to miss working with Mark. He was a very good attorney and mediator, and a great person. I had many cases with him as opposing counsel over the years, and he always did a great job for his clients. He was reasonable, practical, and had a great sense of humor. I wish there were more attorneys like Mark. He is going to be missed by the legal community. My deepest condolences to his friends and family.

I will always remember Mark as a genuinely nice friend who I loved talking sports with. Especially who´s better - Yankees or Red Sox. Rest in heaven my friend. Prayers to your mom, Hal and your family for comfort and healing.

As a young girl, I knew Mark as "coach." Today, I remember him not simply for his dedication to youth sports leagues, nor for the incredible energy that he devoted to each player, but for the sincerity with which he lived and loved. He touched the lives of so many people, including those of my family-he always seemed to consider the needs of others before his own. Always highly involved and intentional, Mark still found a way to show up for others through his levity, and support. And he never missed an opportunity to talk about the Red Sox with my mother...

Hearing this news, we are heartbroken for the whole Hurdelbrink family. We share in the grief of Mark´s passing, and will remember him always. Please know our thoughts are with you each and every day during this especially challenging time.

I can´t put my head around Mark´s tender age except to say he must have lived a good life for G-d to have taken Mark so young. I hope as time passes you all can be comforted by the joys and warmth of Mark´s life.

To Ronnie, Cathy and all of Mark's family I want to say that I am so sorry to learn of Mark's passing. He was a wonderful man, born into a wonderful family and was well loved. I enjoyed the opportunities I had to spend time with Mark over the years at family gatherings and I know how proud his Mom and Dad were of the man he was. I also know he was a great Lawyer as he helped my daughter during a very difficult time and she always said 'he was amazing and won a huge victory for her.' I am praying that God will comfort you and filly your hears and minds with wonderful memories and that they will bring you laughter, warmth and blessings even during this very difficult time. With love, Pattie Williams

I've tried so many times to compile my thoughts and words since learning of Mark's passing. I've suffered loss in my life, but this one is different. I not only lost a boss, but an extremely dear friend. A man I consider a brother. We have worked together since 1995. I was just 20 years old. Mark watched me grow up and grow through so many challenges and changes in my life. He was always willing to give me a brotherly pep talk when I was struggling. When he wanted to start his private practice in 2012, there was no doubt I was along for the ride and what a ride it was. He taught me so much about the law, but more importantly he showed me what an amazing human looks like. A devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, a person that meant so much to this world. My heart hurts more than I can express. It hurts for his parents, his sisters (his sisters meant so much to him), other family members, and friends. However, it is Karen and the girls and the pain of their loss that I can't shake. There are no words to express the level of love he had for the 4 of them. I am going to miss his smile when he talked about them. I am going to miss talking about the bachelor and sports. I am going to miss having my friend that I laughed with, cried to and shared so much of life with. I am going to miss THE best boss in the entire world. A boss that gave me grace to be a working mom and understanding when I had to step away to care for my father. I am going to miss him pouring into me as I grew in the legal field. I was honored to be his assistant, but more importantly his friend. I am so glad the last words I said to him were in a text so I can remember it. I told him "I appreciate you so much!". Until my last day, I will always appreciate him. My love, prayers, and deepest condolences to Karen and the girls and all those who loved Mark. Those girls are his legacy and this world is a better place because of that. He was truly a one in a million kind of guy. He will be forever missed.

Always happy and smiling. Always happy to chat about our kids and spouses. He was a great opposing counsel. He is missed. We will keep him and his family in our prayers. May he rest in peace.
