Rodney Case Obituary
Rodney Case
March 10, 1935 - July 14, 2022
Colville, Washington - Rodney Jerome Case passed away at the age of 87 in his home in Colville, Washington on July 14, 2022. A lifelong servant of his family, his community, and his church, he will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind, but surely welcomed by the loved ones who went before him.
Born in Seattle to Austin and Dorothy Case, Rod spent his childhood in Puget Sound. He attended Queen Anne High School where he met his future bride, Joan Lamson. After graduating in 1953, Rod attended Williams College in Massachusetts before returning two years later to finish his English degree at the University of Washington in 1957.
It was during this time that he and Joan married; she then accompanied him to Andover Newton where Rod acquired his Masters degree in Theology and then to the C. G. Jung Institute in Switzerland. They returned to Massachusetts in 1961, settling in Taunton to start a family near Rod's ministry. They had three children together: Steven, Kathleen, and Jennifer.
Upon returning to Washington, Rod took on the challenge of a new congregation which led to his piloting the chaplaincy program at Tacoma General Hospital.
After his divorce, Rod married Annick Arnault in 1977. Rod adopted her daughter, Diane, and they moved to Gig Harbor, Washington. Both Rod and Annick were active members of the local church and participated heavily in volunteer and philanthropic ventures. The GAP House, the YMCA, Meals on Wheels, and the local blood bank were all frequent recipients of their generosity. After Annick's passing in 2020, Rod moved in with his daughter Kathleen in Colville where he spent many happy days surrounded by family.
Though life handed him many hurdles, Rod faced them all with a gentle humor and a quiet determination, balancing a composed dignity with an easy smile and a gift for finding humor in hardship. Rod was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Austin, his daughter Diane, his first wife Joan, and his second wife Annick. He is survived and mourned by his sister Stephanie, his son Steven and his daughters Kathleen and Jennifer, three grandsons, and one great-granddaughter. He is remembered as a passionate minister, a selfless community member, and a loving father and grandfather. His wit, wisdom, and warmth will be sorely missed.
