ROY ANDERSON Obituary

Roy "Coach" Anderson Roy joined his loving wife Marie in peace on January 23, 2010. He is survived by sister Kathyrn, children Janice, Paul, Jean, Salley, and cherished grandchildren and great granddaughters. Born in 1918, Roy was raised in Forks, and graduated from Washington State University where he met his wife. He retired from the Peninsula School District after 37 years of service and began his own landscaping and nursery business. Roy loved his many years of coaching young athletes at Peninsula High School and felt his biggest contribution was co-founding the Peninsula Athletic Association (PAA). Roy would be honored to have any donations made to PAA. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 30th, 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor with reception following. Coach Anderson, as I will always remember him, was first and foremost a kind and giving family man, and when I think back on those individuals who had a positive influence on my life, he is definately on the short list. As an educator he was respected and certainly as a coach he was a gifted teacher, and an inspiration. Furthermore, I know I speak for many of the residants of the Peninsula when I say what a debt of gratitude so many owe for his work in developing the Peninsula Atheletic Asscociation (PAA) and giving alot of youngsters their start in organized sports here. In later life my wife and I were privelged to reconnect with Mr. Anderson through our mutual love of gardening. Many of the favorite plants and trees that grace our garden were from Coach Anderson's garden and anytime we look at those living memorials to Coach Anderson we will be thankful for having known this wonderful gentle caring man.

Peace,

What a legacy! He started out building young minds and bodies of a very important school program, and continued after that career by helping gardeners fall in love with Rhodies and Japanese Maples! My husband had him as a coach, and our twins have Japanese Maples that he gave them to remember him by. He was very kind and patient, and loved to take people on tours of his garden, which we loved, and we always left with a truck-load of plants that still grace our garden today! Thanks, Roy, for ALL the lives you touched in such a special way! Hope that you are walking in the best garden of all!

Roy, thanks to you , I also love Rhodies. You taught me a lot about gardening in this region when I first moved here for good in 1990. When you closed your nursery,a hobby, it was sad for several of us loved to go visit with Roy and his plants. We often left with many of them or he would hold them while we went for the truck to obtain our lovely plants. I will miss you.
