Terry Thurnau Obituary

Terry Thurnau Passed peacefully from ALS on December 29, 2006 at age 59. His fight was dignified and heroic. He has made our lives more meaningful as we watched how astoundingly he fought this insidious disease. He has been an inspiration to all that knew him. He is preceded in death by his mother Helen Thurnau. He is survived by his loving wife, of over 30 years, Wendy. His children Jennifer Oberg (Ricci) and son Todd Thurnau, two beautiful grandchildren Hayden and Jake Oberg, father Dick Thurnau, brother Marv (Susie), sisters Kathy Dombrowski (Joe), Cheri Beuttner (Gordie), brother-in-law Jeff Wallin (Barb), and his nieces and nephews Mandy, Sam, Jenny, Cindy, Matt, and Kelsey. Terry served his country in Vietnam and was an ingenious ASE master auto technician for over 40 years. He loved fly fishing, salmon fishing, boating, and was passionate about drag racing. A special thanks to Lana, Carol, and Melissa from Franciscan Hospice. He loved your visits. Dear friends Carl Larson, Steve Quam, Ron and Patty Dunlap, and their families. We love you Ter and you will be forever in our hearts and memories. In lieu of flowers Terry has requested donations be made to: ALSA Evergreen Chapter 6627 S. 191st Pl. Dear Wendy & Family,
Although I didn't know Terry well, I admire his enormous courage and dignity to fight this horrific illness. I hope you will all cherish loving memories together. We must push for more research and funding to help eliminate ALS forever.
With Love,

Wendy: Our hearts are with you and your family. Terry was always such a warm person and such a wonderful husband and father. The last time we saw him was at your parents' home a few years ago. Although he was not well, he made the effort to come see us. We had some laughs. We admire how hard he fought his illness, with so few complaints.
We send our love.

He warmed our hearts in different ways. He served in the Marine Corps. Part of him will always live in us. I love you, Papa Thurnau.

Terry and Wendy, you know that Dwight and I loved you both the first time we met you. We love you even more for loving our son, Ricci, and allowing him to marry your little girl. We pray for peace for Terry and healing for your whole family. It is so hard to lose a loved one, but such a blessing when you know they will suffer no more. Terry fought the battle and gave ALS a run for its money. Good job Terry! We love you all!

Terry, I can't thank you enough for loving Jennifer like I love her, You are a true hero in my heart. It takes a real man to love his family and dedicate so much of his life to them and always put them before yourself. You excepted me into your family and treated me like one of them. You were always there for us during the good times and the bad times and never gave up on us. If I can become half the man you were I will conceder myself successful. I love you and will always miss you. I am glad my kids got a chance to know you. I love you Terry!!!

Wendy, Terry was a really special person. I'll always remember him sitting comfortably in a ratan chair in your dining room nook shooting the breeze with Glen and the rest of us as we sat around your kitchen counter on bar stools, all feeding our faces, laughing and having a great time. It is my prayer that you can take comfort in happy memories. Please let me know what I can do to help. I am praying for you and your family.

Wendy I am at a total loss for the words to express how much I will miss him and the brief times that Terry and I had to swap stories, but the laughter I will always cherish along with your friendship. You both were and shall always be loved because we were friends and that is what matters most in life next to family.
