Thomas Lee "Tom" Thurnau

Thomas Lee "Tom" Thurnau, 83, died Saturday, October 11, at his home in Elgin surrounded by his family. He is survived by Barbara (Carlson), his wife of 43 years; his son, Tim (Dana Price Thurnau), Estero, FL; daughter, Traci Thurnau Wright (Donnie), Elgin; Barbara's daughters, Sue Ellen Huyvaert Walsh, Geneva; Karin Huyvaert Sheehy (Bill), St. Charles; sister, Sally Thurnau Egler (David), Macomb, IL; and five grandchildren.

Tom was a proud graduate of Elgin High, Class of 1960 and earned his bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University, where he was a member of the gymnastics team. Following graduation, Tom worked as Vice-President of St. Charles National Bank, then as purchasing Manager for Fox Valley Building Materials. His final work years were spent as a salesman for Fox Valley Unlimited, where he enjoyed and entertained his colleagues and customers.

Tom supported several environmental groups, especially the National Wildlife Federation, Earth Justice and Sierra Club. He was a loyal supporter and regular contributor to the National Rifle Association. Memorials may be made to any of these organizations.

Tom's many friends will remember his kindness, animated personality, and joy in storytelling. A lover of music and a great dancer, Tom had women lining up to be his dance partner! He loved his family and valued every gathering.

A celebration of his life is planned for Friday, October 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM at the Grumpy Goat Tavern at the Highlands of Elgin Golf Course, Elgin, Illinois.
