THOMAS MORBERG

1946 - 2017

Thomas Edward Morberg December 5, 1946 to March 31, 2017 Tom was born in Burbank, CA, and graduated in 1965 from Clover Park HS. He earned a BA in Business and an MBA in Economics at the UW, where he joined Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. After graduation, Tom took a 6 week trip around Europe in a VW van. He loved sharing stories of this adventure. He also made trips to Sweden to visit cherished relatives. Tom was an avid and talented golfer and skier, when younger, sharing his love of these sports with his dad. In 1982, Tom trained and summited Mount Rainier. Tom married Jan Wiggum in 1979, joining Jan's large family. With Jan, he raised two daughters in Gig Harbor, coaching them in sports, participating with them in YMCA Indian Princesses, taking family trips, and skiing together in the Cascades. Tom had a career in mortgage banking with Continental, Inc., Tacoma Branch, his own company, The Dewey Thomas Co., and as an independent commercial mortgage broker. A longtime member of Fox Island UCC, Tom enjoyed many wonderful services, celebrations, and friendships there, served on boards and committees, and sang in the choir. An advocate for social justice, Tom was a recent volunteer with AID NW at the Tacoma NW Immigration Detention Center. Tom was a man of integrity; gentle, hardworking, patient and strong. We will miss our father, husband, and friend, while we commend him to God's loving care. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Jane Nickey Morberg, his father Dewey H. Morberg, and his brother Charles Morberg. He is survived by his wife Jan Wiggum Morberg, his daughters Emily Hanour (Travis), Lake Oswego, OR and Inga Hadder (Joshua), Vancouver, WA, and his three grandsons. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 22nd, 2pm, at FIUCC. Remembrances may be made to FIUCC, or to AID NW, aidnw.org.
