WALTER CHIPMAN

1939 - 2016

Walter Michael Chipman Walter was born in Port Orchard on Sept. 30, 1939, he left us on July 31, 2016. He enlisted in the military at an early age. As a proud member of the Army, Walt served his country with honor. In 1963, while stationed in Germany, he met Ingeborg; they married in 1964 and remained devoted companions through 52 years of marriage. Walt and Inge traveled the world together throughout his 22 years of military career; in the course of their travels their family grew. Daughter Cindy Miller (Daniel) and sons Michael Chipman (Bobbie) and Robert Chipman survive their father. Walt is also survived by his wife Inge, his sisters Donna Lepper (Ed) and Lee Ann Dove (Tom) and his granddaughter Annie. Walt enjoyed fishing, bowling and crossword puzzles and he seldom missed an opportunity to watch the Mariners or the Seahawks. The family sends heartfelt appreciation to the ICU team at Madigan Hospital; they provided focused, skilled and compassionate care every moment. There will be a private graveside service held at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
