My prayers are for his family in their sorrow.
Dr. Lowrie was a warm, wonderful and giving person. When I attended UPS as an adult attending UPS to become a social studies teacher, it was Dr. Lowrie who planned my schedule. Then I was so fortunate to be in his World History class. He was so extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. I so admired him and I wish I had gone back to UPS to tell him. Goodbye Dr. Lowrie.

Walter was a perfect blend of wisdom, humor, and friendship to all who had the pleasure of knowing him and learning from him. He was the very definition of acceptance and respect for everyone he met. He will be missed and honored forever. Prayers and blessings to Leslie and the whole family.

We did not see him often, but I always enjoyed his company, and definitely remember his infectious laugh. Leslie, John, Reed, Caitlin, and Giffen - I am so sorry for your loss. Thoughts and prayers go out to you. I hope he is hanging out with Grandma Anne and my Mom. Love you all.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Walter's passing. He was my teacher, mentor, role model and colleague. He was also a true friend and wise confidant and will always have a place in my heart. I convey my condolences to the family he so loved.

Dear Leslie and Lowrie Family -
Much love and affection to you all. Our kid's favorite park (your front yard) won't be the same without Walter's smile, warmth and kind presence. We take some comfort in knowing that a good man who lived life so beautifully, was sent home surrounded by a choir of friends and family singing heavenly hymns. Lanie, Danny, David & Brian will miss their friend, "Mr Walter" -- but as Lanie said at family prayers the other night, "we'll see him again in Heaven." We pray for your strength, that you would all feel God's love in the embrace of friends and find encouragement in the legacy of the countless lives he touched with his wisdom. We miss you and love you --

My sincere condolences to the Lowrie family for the loss of Per. Over the last four years I've been very fortunate to have Caitlin share with me many of his wonderful stories and exploits. The Lowrie family is in my thoughts and prayers. Love,

My deepest sympathies to the Lowrie family. Every story Caitlin shared about "Per" and the times I spent with him reinforced what a wonderful man and father he was.

I followed Walter Lowrie as Stan Shelmidine's history reader at UPS and graduated a year later than he did. We lost track of each other for many years but reconnected at a recent meeting of the Tacoma Historical Society. We had mused about collaborating on an article about Shelmidine, who fueled our mutual love of history, for the UPS alumni magazine. Walter brought all of Stan's better qualities to his teaching at UPS without, I'm sure, causing the occasional stress to later UPS Presidents that Stan caused Dr. Thompson. They were both great teachers. I miss Stan, and now I will miss Walter. RIP, friend.

A powerful source of inspiration and influence, Professor Lowrie served as a touchstone for my own forays into the worlds of history teaching, writing and business. Success is often measured in one's knowledge of historical record. The facts therein require disciplined and relentless effort before awareness is realized.
To frame the historical record, however, very few could master the eloquence of Walter Lowrie, cosmic voyager nulli secundus.
