Caroll Adams Obituary

Caroll Boyd Adams, 78, Seymour, loving husband, cherished father, beloved brother and fun grandfather, passed away at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Adams graduated from Monroe City High School and immediately joined the Air Force. At his first duty station in Wiesbaden, Germany, he served in intelligence. His unit provided support for the historic Berlin Air Lift. Completing his Air Force tour, he attended Purdue University, where he met and married Mary Louise Wethington, on June 1, 1955, at Pine Village. He graduated from Purdue with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering and was employed his entire career with Standard Oil (Amoco/BP), primarily in Seymour.
Boyd and Louise celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 1, 2005, with a family celebration. He loved the outdoors and travel, and enjoyed traveling with his family to national parks in the western United States. A most memorable occasion occurred in the summer of 1978, when he and his family took a five-week vacation to Alaska, driving the unpaved Alaskan Highway. He was an avid Purdue sports fan and supporter of the university. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, serving in many volunteer and leadership roles, including head of trustees, finance chair and on the education committee. He was known for his integrity and honesty and was a natural for the role of Abraham Lincoln for the Cub Scouts Pack 29 Blue/Gold Banquet. He was also a member of the American Rocket Society.
Born Dec. 27, 1929, near Monroe City, he was a son of James William and Clara Mae Adams, both of whom preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; five children, Sharon (David) Copler, Floyds Knobs, Dr. Mary Beth Adams, Elkins, W.Va., Lt. Col. Kevin (Tracie) Adams, Centerville, Ohio, Tami (Ron) Wolownik, Alpharetta, Ga., and Mona (Mike) McClellan, Columbus; 10 grandchildren, Nastasya (Tim) Hnat, Charlottesville, Va., Jacob Copler, Floyds Knobs, Marissa Caroll (Micah) Jones, Louisville, Seth and Beka Adams, both of Centerville, Ohio, Derek, Samantha and Daniel Boyd Wolownik, all of Alpharetta, Ga., and Samuel Adams McClellan and Mary Beth McClellan, both of Columbus; four great-grandchildren, David, Anna Rose, Jason and Micayla Louise Jones, all of Louisville; two brothers, James Adams, Munster, and Berl Adams, Monroe City; and a sister, Dorothy Parker, Vincennes.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Annilee, Gertie and Ruth, and two brothers, Bill and Ulysses.
The Rev. Steve Cherry will conduct memorial services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given for academic scholarships to Purdue University (the School of Science or School of Engineering), Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, First United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
Arrangements are being handled by Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour.
