David Saucerman Obituary

David L. Saucerman, age 80, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Saucerman had a strong faith and was a dedicated member of Brownstown Christian Church since 1981, where he served as a Deacon. He cherished his church family and actively contributed by participating in various committees to support the church, especially the building and grounds committee.

David was a devoted husband to his wife, Linda, sharing a life filled with adventure and joy. He was also a caring father, grandfather, and uncle. As "best friends," he and his wife cherished their time together, whether creating precious memories with their family, especially their grandchildren, or traveling.

David graduated from Vincennes University with an associate degree in Distributive Education. At a young age, David answered the call of duty and served in the United States Navy for four years. After his honorable discharge, he began a long and distinguished career with Public Service/Duke, from which he retired in 2006 after 34 years of dedicated work.

David's contributions to his community were both heartfelt and impactful. As a member of the Brownstown Exchange Club, he engaged in initiatives that improved the lives of those around him. He also channeled his leadership skills and passion for youth development into his role as a Boy Scout leader.

His love for nature and the outdoors was not just a pastime, but it was a vital part of who he was. In his earlier days, David spent much time camping and hunting. David was a craftsman with a particular talent for woodworking and building canoes, as he found the solace of being on the river. He also enjoyed restoring old wooden boats and cars and playing his guitar. One of David's simple pleasures was sitting on the back porch and enjoying life's blessings.

Born on March 2, 1944, at his home in Edwardsport, David was the son of Darrel Saucerman and Hazel (Sims) Roberts, both of whom preceded him in death. On August 3, 1974, at Bicknell Christian Church, he married Linda Myers, and she survives in Brownstown.

Survivors also include one son, Brent (Mandy) Saucerman of Brownsburg; one daughter, Jennifer (Brian) Isaacs of Brownstown; four grandchildren: Ethan Isaacs, Brooklyn Isaacs, Trey Isaacs, and Monroe Saucerman; one brother, Lonny Saucerman; one sister, Nancy Ehlers; and several nieces and nephews.

David was also preceded in death by one brother, Bruce Saucerman; one sister, Vicki Stoviak; brother-in-law, Dennis Ehlers; and sister-in-law, Beth Saucerman.

Funeral services for David L. Saucerman will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Doug Pogue and Pastor Mitchell McIntyre officiating. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc.

Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.

Military honors will be presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47, and Vietnam Vets 7.

Memorials may be given to Brownstown Christian Church.
