Margaret Ramp Obituary

Margaret Anne "Peggie" Ramp passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, a day shy of her 85th birthday.

Born on October 3, 1940, in Jackson County, Kentucky, to the late Ruffie and Allie VanWinkle, Peggie grew up in both Kentucky and Waynesville, Ohio. On March 11, 1967, she married Paul Ramp in Waynesville, beginning a life together that spanned 58 years. During Paul's Navy service, the couple lived in San Diego, where Peggie arrived after driving herself cross-country-a hallmark of her belief that when something needed to be done, you turned in and got it done.

A devoted Christian, Peggie raised her boys in Reddington Christian Church. Music was a lifelong joy-she met her husband while singing in the choir and continued to be a choir member for many years. Though her major parental ingredient was love, she was not afraid to throw in the power of a Hot Wheels track for a little correction when needed.

Peggie had a lifelong love of porcelain dolls, with a collection that eventually grew into the hundreds and filled every room of the house. Many were gifts from Paul, who objected only once-when one toppled from a shelf and conked him on the head as he slept.

She also loved zipping around in her Ford Thunderbird, often sidelined by a bit of shopping along the way. Generous to a fault, Peggie made it nearly impossible to admire something in her presence without her insisting you take it home-or surprising you with one of your own days later.

Her family was her greatest devotion. She traveled cross-country to celebrate graduations in California, creating special memories-including the night when she rolled off the bed and became wedged herself between the bed and wall.

Known as both "Grammy" and "Mamaw," Peggie played a major role in raising her three younger granddaughters and filled her home with love and plenty of snacks. Each grandchild had not just one favorite cereal but three, with a refrigerator top that looked like a grocery shelf. Though she claimed not to be a cook, she delighted her family with handmade biscuits, surprise bacon mornings, and later waffles from her very own waffle maker.

Peggie was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Shirley Spencer; and four brothers, Gordon, Roland, Donald, and Gary VanWinkle. She is survived by her husband, Paul; her sons, Paul (Jennifer) and Derek (Robin); one grandson, Paul Elijah; and four granddaughters: Marileigh, Emma, Madelyn, and Amelia; her brother, Robert D. VanWinkle; her furry son, Frankie; and cherished kin across Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral and Cremation, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. A service honoring Peggie's life and legacy will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Voss and Sons with Pastor Rick Prather officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery, 1603 Shields Avenue, Seymour.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Humane Society.
