Martha Cheever Obituary

Martha Ellen Cheever (nee Noe) of Hazelwood, Missouri, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 18, 2025, at the age of 94. Born in Freetown, Indiana, on December 11, 1930, Martha was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her devoted son, Jim Cheever and his wife, Jenny; her cherished grandchild, Emily Warfel and her husband, Zach; and her three great-grandchildren, Basil, Natalia, and Simeon Warfel. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Thelma Lucas and Mary Zike; brother-in-law, Dave Zike; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Agnes Noe; husband, Kenneth Cheever; sister, Alice Noe.

Martha graduated from Freetown High School and worked at Marion Kay Spice Company for a few years before embarking on the most impactful journey of her life, being a wife and mother. In 1964, she met her husband, thanks to the efforts of a preacher's wife playing matchmaker. They were married in 1965, and their union was a testament to the love she held for her family and faith.

She served for over four decades as church treasurer of her hometown church and the new church she joined after her marriage. She also served many years as a Sunday school teacher, vacation bible school teacher and with the ladies auxiliary. At her final home church, Chatham Bible Church, she remained active in the quilting circle and Friday senior group meetings and activities.

Martha's faith was the foundation of her life. She dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her church community, finding joy in studying God's word through reading, listening to the radio, and watching religious television programs. Her home was a sanctuary where she delighted in keeping things clean and neat, all part of her nurturing spirit. In 2006, she moved to the St. Louis area to be closer to her family, enabling her to enjoy the cherished moments spent with them.

Martha's gentle spirit and unwavering faith made a lasting impact on all who knew her. She graced our lives with kindness, love, and a deep commitment to her Christian faith.
