Shirley A. Wheeler, of Medora, passed away on the late evening of August 1, 2025 at the Hoosier Health and Living of Brownstown. She was 85 years old.
Shirley entered this life on December 23, 1939, in her family home in Medora. She was the daughter of Floyd and Nellie (Lonsberry) Moore. She was the sister to Thelma, Kenny, Gerald, Russell, Linda, and Terry. On September 26, 1956, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church She was united in marriage to Robert Wheeler. This union of over 51 years was blessed with three children, Darrell, Robin and Jackie. Bob preceded on March 8, 2007 and Robin preceded on April 17, 2017.
Shirley was a devoted wife, loving mother, and Grandma Wheeler to all. Shirley had a love for music, especially Elvis's music. Often, she could be caught singing along to the music in the room. She started working in manufacturing, Seymour Shirt Factory, Medora Plastics, and Cummins, until she went into healthcare. She was a member of Faith Southern Baptist Church of Vallonia.
She leaves lasting memories with her sons, Darrell Wheeler and his wife Carol of Seymour, and Jackie Wheeler of Seymour, grandchildren, Stephanie Wheeler of Crothersville, Ben Wheeler of Seymour, Bryon Wheeler of Seymour, Bethany Daily and her husband Josh of Seymour, Ashley Meece and her husband Chris of Columbus, Kylie Murphy and her husband Tyler of Columbus, Tori Hopper and her husband Andy of Cincinnati, and Shelby Bowling and her husband Nick of Indianapolis, five great-grandchildren, Leman, Carter, Lilly, Nevaeh, and William, brothers, Ken Moore of Brownstown, Terry Freeman of Seymour, and Linda Strange of Campbellsburg and a son in law Kenny Wheeler
Shirley's kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends, welcoming all with warmth and generosity. Whether tending to her beloved garden, sharing laughter at family gatherings, or lending a listening ear, Shirley's presence was a source of comfort and joy. Her legacy endures in the lives she touched and the memories she created with those she loved.
She was preceded by her parents, her daughter Robin, sister Thelma Goldsberry and brothers Russell Moore and Gerald Moore.
Funeral Service will be conducted on Saturday August 9, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Hague Funeral Home of Medora. Burial will follow at Vallonia Cemetery.
Friends may visit on Saturday prior to the service from 11:00 - 1:00 pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be written in Shirley's name to Hoosier Health and Living Auxiliary Activities Fund.
