Harry Lewis Obituary

LEWIS - Harry Colson Lewis, 86, passed away at home peacefully with family June 15, 2024, in St. Marys, Ga.
He was born on June 11, 1938, in Claremont, N.H.
He leaves behind his beloved Mimi; four children, Noreen Kolwicz (Robin), Paul Lewis (Heidi), Moira White (Ronald) and Mathew Lewis (Bo); 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and dog, Teddy.
Harry loved his life and his faith. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pa., where he was the valedictorian of his class in 1956. He was appointed midshipman and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960. Upon graduation, he was selected to serve on submarines and completed sub school in December 1960 in Groton, Conn. He served on board the USS Odax (SS484) and the USS Trout (SS566) from January 1961 through May 1965. He was then selected to complete his Master of Engineering at MIT from June 1965-1968. He completed his 20 years of service as an engineering duty officer and project engineer in Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. He retired in June of 1980 from naval service at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard.
His hobbies were loving his family, golf, chair caning and music. Music was his passion, playing the cornet since he was 17 years old, and singing in many church choirs up until he passed away. Recently, he sang with the Amelia Island singers and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Marshes of Glynn Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) for more than 15 years, the Kings Bay, Ga., Chapter of Military's Officers Association of America (MOAA) for nearly 20 years and Knights of Columbus for more than 40 years, including two councils as Grand Knight. He was most recently honored to visit Washington, D.C., to participate in an Honor Flight, where he said it was the most emotional day he had ever been a part of in his life.
Visitation will start at 11 a.m. and Catholic Mass will follow at noon Friday, June 21, 2024, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 106 Dillingham St. E in St. Marys, Ga.
