James Johnson Obituary

JOHNSON - James "Jimmy" Alfred Johnson, 86, of Kingsland, Ga., passed away peacefully Saturday, March 1, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife of 43 years. ?He was born Aug. 7, 1938, in Ousley, Ga., to the late Fred and Marguerite Dollar Johnson, Jimmy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. After his service, he earned a degree in accounting from Valdosta State University and spent two decades as a dedicated bookkeeper and accountant in the Valdosta area.
Affectionately known as Pastor Jim, he cherished his family, finding joy in taking all five of his grandchildren to Happy Apple Academy over the years. He had a rare gift for connecting with people, often recalling personal stories and details after just one conversation. His daily mission was simple yet profound: to brighten every place he went and uplift everyone he met. Jim's? greatest passion was sharing the gospel, and he embraced his church family and community as his own. His beloved wife, Carolyn, often declared him "the most good-looking, Godly man on earth."
After finding Christ, Jim served as Assistant Pastor at New Covenant Christian Center in Valdosta, Ga. His journey of faith led him to help establish New Testament Christian Center in Madison, Fla., where he later became Senior Pastor. In 1990, Pastor Jim was called to serve as Senior Pastor of Agape Christian Fellowship in St. Marys, Ga., a role he embraced for 28 years until his retirement.
He spread the message of "Strong Faith" through his radio show on The Lighthouse, WECC, where he remained a constant presence, recording and speaking live, and serving passionately within the Lighthouse ministry.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jerry, Dennis and Jo Ann.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Carolyn Pittman Johnson; two daughters, Stacey Burns (Daniel Burns) and Melissa Saidoo (Sean Saidoo); and five cherished grandchildren, Kevin Burns, Katie Burns, Kristin Burns, Ethan Rodgers and Eve Rodgers. He also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
A private burial will take place with a Celebration of Life at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Agape Church in St. Marys, Ga.
Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
