Margaret Maurin Obituary
MAURIN - Margaret "Peggy" Lokey Maurin, of St. Marys, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025.
Peggy was born Dec. 8, 1932, in Crowder, Miss., to the late Doyle Swain Williams and Ruby Mae Townley Williams. Around the age of 10, she was adopted by the late Allen Zane Lokey Sr. and Mary Ede Moore Lokey of Greenville, Miss.
Peggy grew up in Greenville and graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in 1951. She began her work career at U.S. Gypsum, where she met the love of her life and future husband, McHugh "Mac" Maurin. They married on June 21, 1952, and started their family, raising six children. In 1969, the family moved to Pompton Lakes, N.J. The couple moved to Ennis, Texas, in 1978 and to Peachtree City, Ga., in 1981. They made their retirement to Concord, Ga., finally following their youngest daughter, Susan, and her family to St. Marys in 2001.
Peggy loved her family, always dedicated to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was involved in all their activities: volunteering at school events, cheering at their sports games, and traveling to music recitals and performances. She loved to sew and quilt, making Halloween costumes, team uniforms and craft creations. She enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Peggy was always an active member in her church, serving on Parish Councils, acting as an Extraordinary Minister, teaching catechism, and volunteering in groups such as the Ladies Auxiliary, the St. Martha Sewing Circle and the Altar Society. She received the Bishop Gartland Recognition of Service award, an honor bestowed by the Diocese of Savannah on persons who have given distinguished service to the church.
Her love of plants and flowers led to hours of service to the Our Lady Star of the Sea Historic Chapel and the St. Marys Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, R.D. Williams, James "Buck" Williams, Doyce Williams, Allen Zane Lokey Jr. and Allen Stephen Lokey; and sisters, Nancy Ivy, Gladys Sullivan, Leon Melton and Betty Holt.
Those left behind to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Mac; sons, David, Joesph, John and Mark; daughters, Beth and Susan; daughters-in-law, Janey, Theresa and Karen; son-in-law, Greg; grandchildren, Ryan, Robert, Erin, Michael, Leah, Desiree, Patrick, Ella Grace, Jacob, Jared and Connor and their spouses, Amy, Steve, Travis and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Rylee, Ashtyn, Caden, Colton, Kylee, Annie, Emmaleigh, Luca, Francesa, Lila, Julia, Noah and Isabela; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 21, 2025, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 106 E. Dillingham St. in St. Marys with a Rosary at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Our Lady Star of the Sea Historic Chapel would be appreciated.
