Waldene Lassiter Obituary
LASSITER - Waldene Griffin Lassiter, 82, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, at the Lakes Crossing in Kingsland, Ga.
Waldene attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College with a full scholarship in home economics. However, she was soon swept off her feet by a dashing William Lassiter. They were married in 1962 and had their three children.
Waldene loved being a mother, and she loved her kids fiercely, always being an active part of their lives. She was the class mom, the chaperone on school trips and fundraiser for high school events. The dinner table was a space for home cooked southern meals, with fried okra, cube steak and lasagna being a few favorites. Waldene had a gift for making all those she encountered feel seen, known and loved.
Waldene enjoyed sewing, needlepointing and crafts of every kind. She also enjoyed selling real estate for many years. The clients and other agents she met soon became friends for life. One of her greatest joys was her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching them grow up and relished the time she got to spend with them.
Traditions were very important to Waldene. There were few traditions as sacred as Christmas on Devon Drive. Combining the beautiful Christmas lights and luminaries with the donations made to the Humane Society made for a very special Christmas Eve.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, William "Bill" Lassiter.
Waldene is survived by her children and spouses, Al (Suzi) Lassiter of Acworth, Ga., Jay (Dever) Lassiter of St. Marys and Lynne (Mark) Durden of Marietta, Ga., and grandchildren, Will (Sam) Lassiter, Maggie Lassiter, Jack Lassiter, Jonathan Lassiter, Anna Lassiter, Caroline Durden, Griffin (Brynley) Durden and Amelia Durden.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2025, in Bailey Hall, at St. Marys Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at St. Marys Methodist Church. Graveside services will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in St. Marys.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Camden County Humane Society or the St. Marys Methodist Church.
Please Note: A local festival and parade will be taking place in downtown St. Marys on the same day, which may affect parking availability and street access near the church. Attendees are encouraged to allow extra time for parking, and once they come downtown by the train tracks, the attendees are encouraged to turn their flashers on so the police can give them passage to Meeting Street and from there to Ready Street.
Allison Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
