Violet Jones Newman

Violet Jones Newman, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2025, at the age of 96.

She was born in Bremen, Georgia, on July 25, 1928, the youngest of 12 children to the late Lloyd Camp Jones and Anna Estelle Jones. Violet was preceded in death by all her siblings; her cherished husband, G. Ray Newman; her son, Joe Lann Newman; and great-granddaughter, Nicolette Martie.

Violet's early years were filled with a love for the arts, particularly tap dancing and ballet. She was a proud member of the Bremen High School cheerleading squad, where she also earned the title of Miss Bremen. It was during high school that she met the love of her life, G. Ray Newman. They began dating and, after Ray served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, they married and built a life together, raising two sons and a daughter.

Violet was a devoted wife, mother, and later, a baptized Jehovah's Witness, serving in her local congregation.

She is survived by her oldest son, Gary Ray Newman, a retired GBI Agent, and his former wife, Sue Newman; her daughter, Lisa Martie (Richard); four grandchildren, Matthew Newman (Mary Beth), Phillip Martie (Jude), Lee Martie (Shelly), and Ben Martie (Meghan); and four great-grandchildren, Bexley Martie, Ian Martie, Jack Martie, and Graham Martie.

A visitation will be held at Hightower Funeral Home on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m. with Minister Davie Rogers officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Martie, Ben Martie, Richard Martie, Lee Martie, Matt Newman, and Gary Newman.
