Arlene Watts Obituary

Arlene Watts

October 28, 1928 - September 10, 2023

Richland, Washington - Arlene Ruth Watts, 94, of Richland, WA passed away on September 10, 2023.

Arlene was born on October 28, 1928, and was the oldest of four children born to Leland and Pauline (Renke) Maling. She helped take care of her siblings, Robert, Barbara, and James and worked on the family asparagus farm.

Arlene graduated from Sunnyside High School.

Arlene met Ralph L. Watts in Sunnyside once he returned from serving in the Navy during World War II. Arlene and Ralph were married in 1946 and welcomed their son, Michael, in 1948. They lived in Sunnyside until 1955 when they moved to the Tri-Cities. Arlene took care of the home and sold Avon while Ralph worked at the Hanford Site. She had her own minibike and would go on rides with Michael and Ralph. When Ralph retired, they traveled in their motorhome around the United States with friends and spent the winter months in Arizona. When they returned to Richland in the spring, they spent time attending their great grandchildren's sporting events as well as weekly lunches with their friends.

Arlene enjoyed sewing, crocheting, painting, crossword puzzles, Garfield comics, watching game shows, old movies, Seattle Mariners and Seahawks games. Arlene always had a calendar, notebook, and pen by her side, she loved keeping track of important dates, and would write down funny things she heard or read to repeat to others when she had the chance. Arlene would keep a journal of daily events, motorhome travels that included an overview of where they went, what they did, the price of gas and anything else interesting about the trip. Typically, on the way home from Arizona they would stop in Las Vegas and Arlene would put a little bit of money in the Poker slot machine and always seemed to win a jackpot that would take care of fuel cost for the motorhome ride home. Upon their return home there was usually a roll of quarters for the grandkids and as we grew older a desert themed home décor item.

Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, Ralph in 2017 and daughter-in-law, Mary L. Watts in 2022. Arlene is survived by her son, Michael W. Watts, grandchildren, Mary Lynn (Mike) Garza, Tim (Annette) Watts, Jason (Stacey) Watts, Michelle (Lance) Fox, great grandchildren, Whitney (Alex) Fellerman, Hannah (Matt) Turner, Tim (Kaytlyn) Watts, Joshua Garza, Brandyn, Breanna and Britney Watts, Mackenzie Fox (Isaac) Aguilar, Madison Fox (Ryan) Hunt and great-great grandchild, Grayson as well as several nieces and nephews.

We will miss you and will always remember your sense of humor and love for family. At the request of Arlene, there will be no service. The family thanks the staff at Callaway Gardens for the care they provided for Arlene.

Arlene and Ralph were our RV companions. We went to the ocean with them. To Arizona. To sumpter Oregon. They were originally my parents friends. And that´s how we met them. But they became our close friends as the years went by. I miss them

Dennis and I (Sandy and Dennis Wallace) got to know Arlene and Ralph through my parents Niels and Juanita Kaas. We loved traveling with them in our RVs. Many wonderful memories as they shared our family reunions and special days. We will miss them both.
