Doris Singh Obituary
Doris Olive Singh was born December 29, 1923, in Minot, North Dakota, to Calvin and Anna Goodpastor. She passed away November 21, 2008, peacefully in her sleep.
Doris grew up in Spokane, Washington, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School. During WWII, she worked as an electrical inspector of military airplanes. Her first son, David, was born in Florida in 1942.
Doris married Keith LaPoint in 1947 and moved to Pasco, Washington. Keith owned and operated a Lincoln car dealership and later LaPoint Motors. Her second son, Stanley LaPoint, was born in 1949.
Doris possessed a great talent for art starting out colorizing black and white photos. She joined the Allied Arts Association in 1952 and began exhibiting many of her paintings. Doris attended Columbia Basin Community College studying art. She won prizes for her art and had several one-person shows in Washington and Oregon.
In 1957, her third son, Todd LaPoint, was born and the family moved to Kennewick. For the last 20 years, Doris participated as a Senior Companion, enjoying the many friends she made along the way. Throughout her life, Doris continued her artistic endeavors, adding sculpting, photography, poetry, watercolors, stained glass, digital photography and computer art to her large repertoire.
Doris will be remembered by family and friends as a loving mother, grandmother, artist, poet, caring individual and a collector of many things. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by sons, David LaPoint (Brenda) and Todd La Point (Cathy); grandchildren, Damon (Kate), Brent (Kelly), Samantha, Alan, Owen, Max, and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Tristan, Sophia, Amber and Jessica; brother, Kenny Goodpastor; and sister, Mavis Arnold as well as many nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her son, Stanley.
A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Chapel of the Falls, located at 314 W. 1st Ave. in Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Doris's memory to Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, P.O. Box 19023, Seattle, WA, 98109 or [email protected].
