DOTTIE STEPHENS Obituary


Umatilla, Ore.

Dottie Fay Stephens, 81, of Umatilla, OR, went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 10th, 2010. She was born Dottie Fay Reeves on April 9, 1928, in Umatilla, OR, and was a life-long resident of Umatilla. She graduated from Umatilla High School in 1945. Dottie married the love of her life, Alva Burton Stephens, on September 1, 1947. Dottie worked for the Umatilla Post Office for 35 years and was a wonderful mother to their three children. She was an active member of the Umatilla Assembly of God Church. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Friends of Umatilla Library, Umatilla Museum, and the American Cancer Society. Dottie enjoyed trap-shooting at the Hermiston Gun Club. She loved golfing and was the McNary Golf Club women's champion of 1958.

Dottie is survived by her husband, Alva Stephens; brothers, Harold Reeves of Hermiston, OR, Bennie Reeves of Irrigon, OR; sisters, Norma Busler of Umatilla, OR, Rita Jean (Dan) Creamer of Irrigon, OR, Patsy (R.J. 'Shortie') Hutchinson of La Grande, OR; daughters, Jackie (and David) Bingner of La Grande, OR, Jimmie Schleh of Placentia, CA; son, Jerry (Cheryl) Stephens of Richland, WA; grandchildren, Joshua Schleh of Placentia, CA, Megan Schleh of Bloomington, IN, and Breahanna Stephens of Richland, WA; and many lifelong friends.

Special thanks goes out to the caring staff at the Rocking D Residential Care in Hermiston, OR, for their loving care in her final weeks.

A Celebration of Dottie's life will be held at Umatilla Assembly of God Church on Monday, January 18th, at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made in her honor to the Vange John Memorial Hospice in Hermiston, OR.
