Greg Watson Obituary

Richland, Wash.

Einan's Funeral Home

On January 3rd, 2008, Greg Watson of West Richland ended his life under his own terms at a place where he often found peace of mind. This comes as a great surprise and tragedy to the people who loved and cared for him. As we try tomake sense of why a person like Greg Watson would do such a thing, we discovered Greg was beginning a battle with Alzheimer's disease.

Greg and his twin brother Gary were born in 1946 where their parents, George and Isabelle resided in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. George moved his family to Portland, OR, in 1958 and they became citizens of the U.S. in 1960.

At a young age, Greg and Gary began a career in the construction business and were known as the Watson Brothers. One of Greg's and Gary's earliest projects was the construction of the first Kmart in California. The Watson Brothers were very close to each other and could always be found working hard together and playing even harder.

Greg and Gary were responsible for the construction of innumerable homes and commercial structures throughout Washington and Oregon during the'70s and '80s. Greg and Garry moved to Vancouver, WA, in the late '70s to continue their construction businesses throughout the Washington and Oregon area.

In the early '80s, after the loss of his brother to a vehicle accident, Greg ventured into the cattle business. Greg established a prosperous cattle business, buying and selling dairy and beef cattle throughout west central area of Washington. He was known for his honest business practices, dependability and hard work ethic.

After the cattle industry's downturn in the '90s, Greg went back to the construction business, working as a cost estimator and project manager for several construction businesses. Once again, he established himself as a person who was honest, dependable and would see his projects to the end with a diligent work ethic. These traits allowed the businesses he worked for to grow and prosper in the region.

Greg moved to the Tri-Cities area in 2000 where he met his current wife, April, and were then married in 2001. During this time, he worked for Wubben Brothers Construction and then Watts Construction as a Cost Estimator and Project Manager. Many of the new housing subdivisions constructed throughout the Tri-Cities area are a result of Greg's hard work and direct supervision.

Greg and April established Red Mountain Construction, LLC, in 2005 with the purpose of buying, remodeling and selling of private residences and commercial spaces in this area. Once again, his values and extensive knowledge of construction styles and techniques touched many buildings in the Tri-Cities area. They will be longstanding reminders of Greg's and April's skill and hard work.

Greg's greatest passion in life was fishing. During his free time, he would often take his boat to the ColumbiaRiver to fish whatever was in season with his family and close friends. During the summer, he loved fishing around the San Juan Islands for salmon and greatly admired that area for its natural beauty and wildlife. His friends also knew Greg for his considerable poker playing skills that benefited him during business negotiations.

Greg is survived by his wife, April; daughters, Theresa Winters and Shanli Watson; his son, Shawn Connor; and six grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and we hope he has finally found peace and rest.

Funeral services will be held at Einan's Funeral Home and Crematorium this Wednesday, January 9th, 2008, starting at 11 a.m. People who knew Greg are invited to attend to share memories.

Theresa Watson/Winters

January 23, 2008

Dear Dad,
Meaning holds power for those who understand, promise for the eleventh hour realization and regret when it’s too late.
In November I experienced meaning while thinking of you, not knowing it was near the end.
Regret now rips through the place I heard repeated promptings to call.
When I listened to the vague message with a grave tone, I cried out no!
Please, give me a chance to have the conversation that had been compiling for weeks, months, years, my life time.
I missed the chance, you’re gone.
I know you now know, but I’m so sorry and sad you didn't hear my feelings.
I’m so sorry and sad I didn't hear your reply.
But I know too.
In the end, it’s never too late and regret cannot survive where the power of meaning is understood.
I understand and love you, that's the meaning of a Father Daughter relationship.
Peace be with us,
Love Theresa

Please accept my deepest sympathies.
I had the pleasure of getting to know and to work with Greg, he was a very good man, he was always quick with a joke, and a smile. He will be missed by myself and all that had the honor of knowing him.
