John Mostoller Obituary

John Roger Mostoller
November 23, 1958 - September 14, 2021
Kennewick, Washington - John Roger Mostoller was born in 1958 in Kennewick to parents Hattie and Roger Mostoller. He excelled at both academics and athletics, graduating in the top ten of his Kennewick High class and lettering in football, basketball, baseball and tennis. He was a graduate of Eastern Washington University, where he was a guard on the school's nationally ranked offensive line. He earned degrees in business and finance, following in his father's footsteps to enter the insurance industry. While on a snow skiing trip in Canada during his senior year, he met the love of his life in the singles lift line. He and Sherry would share 33 years of love, friendship, and happiness together.
John fit so much living into his 62 years of life. He made a tremendous impact on his community through his volunteer work, from the Special Olympics to Kiwanis and the Tri-Cities Water Follies. John served as race director for the Columbia Cup, Richland Regatta and SeaFair for many years, making lifelong friends in the process. His spirit of adventure led to many incredible experiences, from mountain climbing and heli-skiing to scuba diving and spelunking. Many of his best memories were made alongside his two similarly adventurous daughters, Bri and Katie, of whom he was impossibly proud.
John was a pillar in his community and family, a title earned through an incomparable work ethic and a relentlessly positive attitude. He was a talented leader who knew how to bring out the best in his teammates and friends. From star athlete to accomplished salesman, he excelled at everything he did. Most importantly, his family was blessed by the incredible love he poured into being a father and husband. His unshakeable faith and optimism were inspirational to those whose lives he touched.
After battling cancer bravely for 8 years, John was surrounded by his loving family when he was called to heaven. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, and beloved labradoodle. He will be remembered for his humor, kindness and integrity, and he will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
There will be a memorial service celebrating the lives of both John and his mother Hattie at 1:00 on Saturday, October 16th at Bethel Church in Richland, followed by a reception at 2:30 at Barnard Griffin Winery.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I took care of Hattie, she loved it when her son brought over the labradoodle.
