Richland, Washington - Kathryn (Kathy) M. Nash Simpson, 70, of Richland, WA, died on Friday, March 5th after a month-long struggle with Covid Pneumonia. Born in Detroit, MI, on May 28, 1950, she was the second of seven children born to Charles Robert and Betty Lou (Ping) Nash. She attended Fowlerville High School where she played flute and piccolo in the marching band. She married George Simpson on June 15, 1968. They had two children and three grandchildren.
Kathy moved with her family to Richland, WA in 1980. She retired from Kadlec Medical Center after 20+ years as an Emergency Room nurse.
Kathy was an avid traveler, spending time in Germany, England, Scotland, and Italy, as well as visiting 36 of the 50 US states, and 3 provinces in Canada. Kathy's hobbies included cake decorating, vegetable gardening, music, reading, crafting, and Sudoku puzzles.
Kathy was an advocate for life-long learning, mental health care, equal rights, support for the homeless and hungry, and homeless teens. She volunteered with the Red Cross and the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy. Kathy was a member of the leadership team at Shalom United Church of Christ where she had been a member for 40 years. Kathy was a member of the PEO DF Chapter in Richland, serving as President until her death.
Kathy is mourned by her daughter, Karen (Simpson) Klaus, son-in-law Ron Klaus, 3 grandchildren, Alexander and Kathryn Klaus, and Skye Fetsch, grandson-in-law Dalton Fetsch, sisters Susan Nash (Roger Munro), Emily Smith (Roger), Esther Witherspoon (Jon), Carolyn Pope (Michael), and Martha Dillon (Thomas), brother C. Robert (Bob) Nash, Jr. (Marie), as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, and her son, David.
