Kenneth New Obituary

Kenneth New
July 4, 1934 - July 12, 2023
Asotin, Washington - Kenneth Houston New, 89, of Asotin, Washington entered into God's Kingdom at home on July 12, 2023. He was born in Jefferson City, Missouri on July 4, 1934, to Robert and Dolly New.
Ken is survived by his wife, Barbara and daughter Lori Worcester. Other survivors include grandsons Ryan Keever and Glenn Moran, great grandson Elliot Moran and granddaughter Kinley Keever. Also sister in laws Yvonne Houser and Jan Nelson; and faithful, loving dog Pixie.
Ken was preceded by his son Kenneth H. New, Jr. and sisters Vi Weeks, Shirley Hagen and Nadine McQuown, also father and mother-in-law Bill and Gladys Graham.
After the family moved from Missouri to Washington, Ken graduated from Richland High School and entered into the Army Reserves in the Airborne Paratrooper division from 1953 to 1961. During that time he met the love of his life, the woman who would stand by his side through thick and thin, Barbara.
Living in Richland, Washington for many years until retirement, Ken worked out at Hanford for Westinghouse for many years and was involved with the start-up of the FFTF reactor. After retiring in 1999 Ken and Barb bought property in Asotin, Washington, in Hell's Canyon and built a beautiful home where they lived happily until his passing.
Ken was loved to hunt birds, especially turkey and loved to fish. Ken and Barb would get out in their jet boat to fish any chance they could get. One of their best fishing spots was right in front of the house.
Ken was a member of the Lewiston Church of Christ. Funeral services were held there on July 15. Donations can be made to the Lewiston Church of Christ. Please sign the on-line Book of Memories at www.merchantfuneralhome.com. He will eventually be laid to rest with Barbara in Sunset Gardens at Einan's in Richland, Washington.

I was deeply saddened today to hear of Ken´s passing. When hearing sad news such as this, I think of all the good times we had with Ken and Barbara and our families vacationing at Curlew lake, Priest lake and motorcycling at Lost meadows. Sadly Ken may be gone, but these wonderful memories remain forever. My deepest condolences to Barbara, Lori and families.

Many, many great memories I hold dear in the 70's racing motorcycles with Ken. Here's a picture after the 1968 Mattawa 100-mile race in Washington state. Ken finished 3rd in the 100cc class that day. I loved the guy and he motivated me to ride harder on my Hodaka. I always wanted to get good enough to beat him at cross country racing and finally did that two years later at Road 68 in Pasco. He was as happy about that as I was.
