Passed away peacefully at his home in Kennewick on September 14, 2023. He was born December 11, 1934 in Pasco, WA to Clayton and Mabel (Deranleau) Hackney. They lived in Richland, WA until 1943, when the government condemned their farm in Richland for the Manhattan project. They then moved to Kennewick and continued farming. He graduated from E.S. Black High School (now Kennewick High School) in 1952. He attended St. Martin's College and then left college to pursue a career in road construction.
He was drafted and served in the US Army. After his discharge he continued road construction working for the LW Vail company for 25 years. He then started H & H Sales and Rentals and continued this business for the rest of his working years, retiring in 1998.
Lewis married Sharon Cushman; three children were born to this marriage. He then married Nadine Holden and her three children joined the family.
He is survived by his wife Nadine Hackney, Daughters Denise Konzek (David) Kennewick, WA. Sandra Dressler (Dennis) Spokane, WA. Son Pat Hackney Kennewick, WA. Stepchildren Larry Holden (Jamie) Leonard, Texas. Rebecca Oak and Daniel Holden Kennewick, WA. Nine grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Brothers Clifford Hackney (Marie) Edmonds, WA. Don Hackney (Sherrie) Spokane, WA. Former wife Sharon Cushman. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We will miss him; he was our rock and will be forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice. A graveside service will take place at 10:00am on September 23, 2023 at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
