Richland, Washington - Martin Luther West, Jr. passed away April 21st, 2024. Born in Texas on a Christmas Day to Martin and Nina, he was raised in Corpus Christi alongside his brother, Johnny, and sister, Diva. The family resided on an air-force base, giving him an orderly, disciplined, and independent lifestyle. This served him well as he went on to succeed in many areas of life. A well-rounded individual, he excelled in such areas as business affairs, athleticism, and scholarly pursuits.
Yet, whether it was earning his Ph.D. in nuclear physics, naming a peak he had mountain climbed, or running his own business, no one would have guessed it by the humility Martin showed throughout every high-reaching accomplishment of his. His generosity did not go unnoticed as well, as he was known for having the lowest rent in town as a landlord, affording many families a secure place to live. It's easy to see why Martin was so deeply loved by others.
He was blessed with kind, loyal, fun-loving friends who were always there to lend him a laugh, making sure he carved out time to enjoy life pursuing hobbies such as fishing, billiards, hunting, car-racing, skiing and much more. He especially enjoyed activities in the great outdoors, as he considered it being close to God. He was also blessed the day he met the love of his life, Andrea, and together they built the family they always wanted. Both being from Texas, but only meeting upon moving to Richland, WA, it was clear they were meant to be united as one. This union gave him two adoring children and eventually a granddaughter who lit up his life immeasurably. Whether it was teaching her duck and elk calls on his whistles, or relishing in his son's fine BBQ's together, they were enchanting to watch.
Martin is survived by his loving son and daughter, David and Christyl, as well as by his loving granddaughter, Cassandra. There will be a private graveside service, followed by a public reception on June 2nd. The Celebration of Life is at 1pm at the Anthology Event Venue in Richland, WA.
