Phyllis Schut was born in Cambridge, NE, to Pat and Doris Ritchie. Early formative years were spent in Nebraska, Idaho, Seattle, and Sunnyside. At age five, her mother took her to dance lessons, which she continued until high school. Phyllis was active in the Rainbow Club, and her passion for clubs continued as a mother. She was active in Cub Scouts as a den mother, Blue Bird leader, and participated in Sherry and Steve's school activities, while taking Sandy to physical therapy in Yakima. Growing up, she demonstrated a passion for learning and a love for family. She attended Eastern State College, where she forged lifelong friendships and achieved academic success.

Throughout her career, Phyllis Schut contributed greatly to teaching, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends. She was known to encourage other women to pursue their goals, and leaves behind a legacy of professionalism and dedication.

In early life, Phyllis enjoyed square dancing, riding motorcycles, and selling Jafra. Later in life, she enjoyed reading, going out to lunch, and crocheting gifts for others. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, compassion, and creativity. Phyllis Schut cherished time spent with family and friends entertaining at her mountain property on the Chinook Pass.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Joe and Sheryl Gozalez; grandchildren, Marisa (Dan) Parr, Christian Schut, Matt Schut, Michael Gonzalez, Lauren (Jim) Weedmark; great-grandchildren, Elsa Young, Trystan Parr, Machela Young, Rowley Weedmark.
