Robert Wedberg Obituary

Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home
The excitement was just too much. Bob Wedberg suffered a massive heart attack and died suddenly Wednesday, August 10, 2005, while watching one of his beloved car races on television.
Bob was born to Bill and Leona Wedberg on October 3, 1947, in Lincoln, Nebraska. In 1951 his parents packed him and their belongings and set out for Richland, Washington where he went through school graduating from Columbia High in 1965.
A tour of duty in the Air Force followed during which he flew the maximum allowable combat missions over Vietnam. Upon his discharge Bob enrolled at Columbia Basin College, where he met his sweetheart of 33 years, Becky.
They dated through college and graduated together from Eastern Washington University and married shortly thereafter.
Bob retired from the Kennewick School District in June 2004 after teaching several years in elementary school and many years teaching math at Highlands Middle School.
Bob's sudden and unexpected death left a void in his friends' and families' lives that can't be filled. He was a kind, caring and loving friend to all.
Bob never met a stranger and could visit with anyone and make a new friend. Bob was always there to help with any situation. He was a special, humble man who never bragged about himself but was so proud of his loved ones.
Bob and Becky recently moved to their dream home and had traveled across the country to visit family and friends this summer. The retirement dreams were cut short, but the memories of Bob will last forever.
Bob was a lifelong member of the Independent Order of Foresters. He served as an officer in the local Atomic Branch for many years and at the regional level for 20 years, including a 4-year term as High Chief Ranger (President).
He was rewarded in 2001 for his outstanding service by receiving an award at the International level called the Grand Cross Legion of Honor. There can be no more than 100 living recipients of the award.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Becky, his brother Bill Wedberg, and wife Barb. He also leaves a loving extended family that includes Barb Mansfield, Butch and Sharon Hall, Odie Mansfield, and Ted and Peggy Mansfield. 18 nieces and nephews and 20 great-nieces and nephews lost their favorite uncle and will miss him dearly. Family celebrations will have an empty place at the table and in our hearts.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 13 and Sunday August 14 from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm as well as 9:00 am to time of service on Monday August 15, 2005.
Funeral service will be held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral home, 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick on Monday, August 15, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. with private family burial to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to one of the following: ACES, P.O. Box 1253, Richland, WA, 99352, Sugar Free Kids Summer Camp for Diabetics, c/o Shelly Hawks, P.O. Box 557, Benton City, WA, 99320, or the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. North, Seattle, WA, 98103.

Dear Becky -

I was deeply saddened to hear that Bob has passed on. I always loved that boy! I'm so glad that we were able to see you both last May, even though it was a sad day my spirits were lifted when I saw his smiling face come through the door...since 1965 that has always been the reaction of so many when Bob walked into a room. Take good care of yourself Becky, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

Oh, Becky, I am so profoundly sorry for your loss. Just having had lunch with you and Bob, it's so hard to believe. It has been my pleasure over all these years to run in to you two and catch up. Bob was such a warm, compassionate man, I know he will be sorely missed by everyone who ever met him. May God bless you and all your family and friends in this most difficult time.

Becky, to talk about my cousin, Bob, I would have to take a weeks vacation just to put it all on my paper. It's not just that my cousin was God's right hand man, but, I have now discovered that his wife, Becky, is also next to God.

When we were kids, I often wondered why Bobby was so perfect and Billy and I so naughty. As the years went by Bob never changed. He just got taller and bigger and so did his smile. Bob went through life doing exactly what God wants us to do and many have not. I don't know why God needed him so young. I'm a little angry and feel cheated as I needed him so much more.

None of us got to say Good-Bye to Bob. It's probably just as well because I would never have let him go since I'm selfish that way. I call them my boys. I love them more like brothers than cousins. The only thing good about all this is that I still have Bill. Now I'm more anxious to get to heaven for the wonderful reunion .

All my love, Vicki

I was lucky enough to work with Bob in some shape or form since 1993. Whenever, I needed help on something in math he was there for me. He was able to explain it to be so that I could past it on to my students. His wonderful dry sense of humor will be missed.
