Ron Morrison-Smith Obituary

Ron Morrison-Smith
January 26, 1954 - January 17, 2021
Kennewick, Washington - Ron Morrison-Smith died at home on January 17, 2021. He was 66.
Ron was born in Everett on January 26, 1954. He graduated from Mariner High School in 1972, joined the United States Naval Reserve, and spent several years working in construction and law enforcement in Snohomish County. Ron married Sharon in 1984 after a whirlwind courtship, and they lived in Selah and Ellensberg before moving to Whatcom County, where Ron graduated from Western Washington University with a degree in special education. Ron taught special education at several schools in the Pasco School District between 1994 and his retirement in 2019, most recently as the life skills teacher at Livingston Elementary, earning a Master's in English as a Second Language from Heritage University along the way.
Ron loved teaching life skills. Every morning he raced out of the house to start his day, and every night he came home excited to share how one or more students had stretched or grown. He also loved travelling with his family, telling stories, boating, being around lakes, rivers, and salt water, English nautical novels, doing all of the "non plant" things in the garden, and riding his Vespas. Some of his favorite memories included a campsite-crashing moose in Idaho, pub crawling across Ireland, and playing cricket in England, but his best times were the day his daughter Sarah was born, and watching Sarah receive her Ph.D.
Ron leaves behind his wife, Sharon Morrison-Smith and daughter, Sarah Morrison-Smith, as well as three siblings and two special nieces.
We miss you so much.

I just found out tonight that my friend from a lifetime ago has passed away. I hadn't seen or spoken to Ron in close to 40 years. He was my best friend until I let time and life separate us. My condolences to his family on your loss.

I am saddened to see that Ron passed away. When he and I took our Masters classes through Heritage, we did several projects together and shared lots of teaching stories. He was a great guy and was a credit to his profession. God bless you Ron.

Our family is greatly saddened to learn of Ron’s passing. He was our daughter’s (Taylor’s) teacher for several years. His passion for special education and love for our children was evident. Please accept our deepest sympathies.
Love, the Mendoza Family
