Don Archer Obituary

DON ARCHER Catholic services for Lt. Col. Don Sherman Archer, 90, of Chico, CA will be held on Monday, March 4, 2013; at 11 a.m. a Rosary with visitation will take place and the Mass will begin at 12 noon at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church. Committal and Burial services will follow at Chico Cemetery. Don passed away on February 26, 2013 at Roseleaf Care Home in Chico. He was born on August 30, 1922 in Carp Lake, Michigan to Henry and Lillian Marie Archer. During World War II he served in combat in the 493rd Fighter Squadron, 48th Fighter Group, Ninth Air Force and completed 89 missions, starting at Utah Beach in France and ending in Germany. He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and also was decorated by the Belgian government for his fighting above the Battle of the Bulge. Later he spent several Air Force years in Peru, Brazil and Nicaragua. He graduated from San Jose State University and became the President of Murphy Carpets of San Jose, CA. He married Winifred Graf at the Mission in Carmel, CA in 1953. After Winifred's death in 2006 he married Capitola Alcorn. Don is survived by his wife, Cappy Archer; brothers, Arthur and Spencer Archer; sisters, Myrtle Spracklen and Fay Lagerquist and many nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Phyllis, Delores, Garner, Vere and Percy. It is so sad to hear of Uncle Don's passing at this time. We know he had a very long and fruitful life.
