SHIRLEY BRANDT Obituary

SHIRLEY ANN (BARNARD) BRANDT Shirley Ann (Barnard) Brandt, 93, passed away in Peoria, AZ on January 7, 2019. Shirley was born in Omro, WI on December 19, 1925 to parents, Sherman and Marie (Bullis) Barnard. Shirley spent her childhood in Omro, WI and after graduating from Omro High School, initially went to Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin for a summer job. She was offered a tuition scholarship the next fall and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in 1947. While at Ripon, she was a member of Phi Delta Omega sorority, played basketball and was on the rifle team. After graduation, she lived and worked for several years in Green Bay, WI. and on June 13, 1949, married Robert L. Brandt in Omro, WI, whom she met and began dating at Ripon. Shirley and Bob lived in Lawrence, KS for several years while Bob pursued his studies, and then moved to Richland, WA in 1952, where they lived for 14 years with their growing family of 4 children. While in Richland, they attended Westside Church, where they made many friends and pursued spiritual growth in their Christian faith. Shirley moved with her husband and their young family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1966, where she lived the remainder of her life. She always remained a loving, kind, patient and devoted wife and mother and enjoyed hosting her family on birthdays and holidays, often providing homemade baked treats for dessert, along with smaller individual pastries and breads for family and guest to take home. Shirley was a wonderful baker known for her pies - particularly apple - and would sometimes see bidding go over $100 per pie at church auctions. She remained active at Northminster Presbyterian Church in women's groups and prayer chains her entire time in Phoenix, always taking time to care for the needs of others. Some of her happiest days were camping and fishing with her family in Arizona's White Mountains. She also enjoyed gardening - particularly tomatoes - and remained a life long Green Bay Packers fan since listening to games on her father's lap as a young child. Her family will always be grateful to God for providing such a wonderful lady to grace their lives as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We love you! Shirley is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert L. Brandt; her children, Nancy K. Brandt Cox (Leo Cox), Kenneth R. Brandt (Mary Lake Brandt), Martin B. Brandt (Irma Carrasco Brandt), and Randall A. Brandt (Sherri Bouley Brandt); 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren (with an 18th on the way); and one brother, Charles Barnard. Shirley is preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Barnard Kallas; her brother, David Barnard; and her grandson, Christopher Brandt. A celebration of life service will be held for Shirley on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 3PM, at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 13001 North 35th Avenue, Phoenix, Az 85029. In lieu of flowers, the family requests (if you wish) that donations be made to the Marie Bullis Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to Omro and Oshkosh, WI area college students. https://www.oshkoshareacf.org/fund/marie-bullis-barnard-memorial-scholarship-fund/
