Susie Metully Obituary

Susie Anna Metully

January 23, 1933 - September 27, 2025

Kennewick, Washington - Susie (Sue) A Metully

Sue was born on January 23, 1933, the second of five children of William and Jewell Schneekloth of Flaxville, Montana. She passed away peacefully on September 27, 2025, surrounded by her family.

A proud graduate of Montana State University, Sue met her husband of 60 years, Charles J. "Chuck" Metully, Jr., and accompanied him through his military career, from Fort Benning, Georgia, to Fairbanks, Alaska. After his tour they returned to Montana, then moved to Kennewick in 1962 where they raised their family and remained for the rest of their lives.

Sue found her calling as an elementary school teacher in 1964, concentrating on fourth and fifth grades. She began her career at Vista Elementary in Kennewick, later transferring to Southgate Elementary. Her lifelong passion was teaching, connecting with and motivating children. She loved seeing their eyes light up when they learned a new skill. She retired after 25 years of teaching.

Sue loved to travel. She visited several countries around the world with her sister, daughter, and granddaughter. She and Chuck also took many cross-country road trips to visit family and friends.

Sue's home is filled with her original oil paintings, sewing projects, and crafts. We will miss her Swedish meatballs, carrot cake, and the gluten-free shortbread recipe she worked hard to perfect for her daughters-in-law.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Jewell, her husband Chuck, her son Keith and all of her siblings, Dave, Roger, Mary and Bob. She is survived by her son Ken (Nancy), daughter Karan and daughter-in-law Lori. Her pride and joy were grandchildren Matt (Tara), Lauren (Alex), and her shared grandchildren Alison and Sean. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Gavin, Mason, Makenzie and Brock.

Sue navigated life's experiences and challenges with grit, determination, and grace, with a "such is life" attitude. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma for 50 years and a long-time member of DAR.

Because Sue was a strong proponent of women and children, please consider contributing any memorial donations (or as she would say, "all that good stuff") to Women Helping Women of Tri Cities (www.whwftc.org), Vanessa Behan of Spokane (www.vanessbehan.org), or your favorite charity benefiting women and children.

A private graveside service will be held for the family. We invite you to sign the online tribute wall at www.muellersfuneralhomes.com
