William (Bill) Bos, finally free, telling stories and doing a little fishing and hunting, met up with his maker, family and friends March 24, 2013.
Born June 22, 1925, and raised in Sunnyside, Washington to Dutch immigrant parents, David and Jacoba Bos, with six sisters and four brothers.
Bill and Ruth (Breukelman) were married in 1948. They made their home in Sunnyside until 1960 when they moved to Othello. They raised alfalfa, potatoes, corn, beets and beans. After Ruth passed away March 21, 1965, Bill moved his family into town and worked as a carpenter building many homes in the Othello area.
He and Beverley Hall were married in 1975 and made their home in Connell, Washington, where he continued to build and remodel homes. He then worked at Hanford for about five years until he retired in 1990.
Bill lost his wife, Beverley, to Alzheimer's in 2012, then moved to Kennewick to be closer to a dialysis facility where he was being treated three times a week.
He only had an eighth-grade education, but was wiser and had more common sense than many of the people he met. Everyone he came into contact with was a friend. He was quick with a smile, a joke, a ditty or a poem, of which he always said he was quoting Shakespeare.
He loved to fish and hunt. His best memories are of the annual fishing and hunting trips he took with his family.
Bill is survived by his children, Dennis Bos (Barbara), Outlook; Darroll Bos (Kitty), Curlew, Cindy Nordlof (Eric) Kennewick; and Christy Hollandsworth (Bob), Cambodia; his step-children, Karole Brown, Jodie Chauza, Roxy Hall, Julie Haning and George Hall; sisters, Lou Apol, Margaret Duim (Wilbur), Ann Besteman; and brother, Harry Bos (Lynn) and sister-in-law, MaryLynn Bos; several nieces and nephews, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Jacoba Bos; sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Alice (Ed) Broers, Lydia (Ken) Boeringa, Marie (Clarence) Velt Kamp, Bob (Arnola) Bos, Earl Bos and Fred Bos.; stepson, Ron Hall; and great-granddaughter, Kelly Bierlink.
We will miss his kindness, his quick sense of humor, his stories, his poetry, his pretty blue eyes, and most of all, his smiling face.
Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the
National Kidney Foundation.
