Wilma Page Obituary

Wilma Page
September 23, 1941 - November 4, 2021
Richland, Washington - Our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Wilma Louise Page (née Pfister) passed away at home on November 4, 2021 at the age of 80. The past year presented many challenges for Wilma, however, at the time of her passing she had found a renewed peace.
Wilma was born in Kenton, Ohio, September 23, 1941. She married Thomas Lee Page (Lima, Ohio), on August 24, 1963. After their wedding, Wilma completed her Master's Degree in Library Science and spent time teaching high school chemistry.
Thomas and Wilma made their way to Washington State in 1972 after living in various cities in Ohio and Missouri.
Once settled in Richland, Wilma applied her Master's Degree and worked in the Richland School District supporting Library services. She later started working at the Mid-Columbia Library in Kennewick, which saw her work as a Librarian as well as in the Administrative offices. Retiring from there as the Assistant Director of Library Services. Her favorite aspect of the library was working the reference desk. Wilma loved the challenge of looking up information, digging into a subject and finally providing the answer back to the patron.
Throughout the years Wilma applied the same depth of knowledge from the library into her hobbies, interests and passions. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking and loved creating new and interesting dishes for friends and family. She also took her camera on local walks, family trips and vacations, and produced beautiful photos of nature and sceneries, which she frequently shared with others. Wilma also exhibited her creative side through watercolor painting. She took classes, shared her tips and tricks with family, and often gifted her work.
After retiring from the Mid-Columbia Library, Wilma gave back to her community by volunteering at the Richland Library and the Seattle Children's Bargain Boutique in Kennewick.
Wilma enjoyed the community and friendship of various groups and activities including skiing with lifelong friends, visiting the local court club, and other local community groups. Travel was another important part of her exploration and she and Thomas went on many Road Scholar trips, including several accompanied by their grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband Thomas, son Alan (Kristin), daughter Stephanie (Scott), brothers Eugene, Donald and David, and sister-in-law Nancy, and grandchildren (Hayley, Dylan, Seeley and Soren).
Per Wilma's wishes, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Seattle Children's either through the Boutique or Seattle Children's donation webpage.

I shall miss my friend so much. We worked together at MCL. I retired at 23 years, in 2006. The friendship continued with retiree's potlucks, many book titles exchanged, soup recipes, and family news shared. I'm so glad she was in my life. Our Wilma was wonderful and now I am sad. I'll always remember.

What I loved about Wilma was her willingness to help others and her objectivity driven directness. She would go out of her way to find me books that were hard to find. She got caught up in my desire to find a form of " kuchen " that I had as a kid. Wilma listened , researched and made us a potica pastry that exceeded my memory of a childhood fantasy. The other truly Wilma story was at the cabin with Tom , Lee , John Hartman ( three PHDs ) and myself. We were trying to redesign the cabin stairs to be more geriatric friendly. We could not reach a design solution and Wilma quietly asked why we could not redesign the wooden steps. Of course male egos were involved and we quietly explained why that wouldn't work. As the day proceeded , Wilma would ask again why we couldn't just rebuild the wooden steps. After the third time , we stopped , bottled up our egos and designed a way to "just rebuild the wooden steps". Humility is not my long suit , but it was that day. I'll remember Wilma fondly as long as I draw breath. Don

Dear Stephanie, Alan and family,
We were so saddened to hear of your mother's passing.
I have so many memories of times with both of your parents. Our times at the cabin were always so much fun. I remember once Wilma, Sherry and I made the Roman shades that still cover the main floor windows, it was quite a production.
I also often sought her advice with my pitiful knitting projects. Her creations were works of art.
She also shared her great knowledge of just the sort of book I would like to read. She also shared her travel stories
with wonderful enthusiasm.
We will miss her!

Tom, Alan and family, I'm sad to hear of Wilma's passing. I just saw her photo at the Neurological Resource Center last week and remembered seeing her there volunteering, as well as getting to see her often at the library. She was always a pleasure to talk with. My thoughts are with you all.

I worked with Wilma at the Mid-Columbia Library in Kennewick many years ago. She was not only a kind and generous person, but also an amazing wealth of knowledge. She was a wonderful person who inspired many. The world is a better place for having had her in it.
