Carol Tansey Obituary

Carol (Hughes) Tansey TROY - Carol (Hughes) Tansey, 69, peacefully passed away on April 21, 2016 after a life well lived. She had a rare disease called Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Carol was born in Troy, and was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Winifred McGrath Hughes. She was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, class of 1964 ,and Columbia Greene Community College. She is survived by three daughters, Erica (Colin) Loher, Carla (Ron) Young and Jamie Borgesen (Joel Robinson) and she is also survived by the father of her daughters, James E. Tansey. Additionally, she is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Cecilia and Henry Loher; Ella and Alexander Young; and Lydia and Jack Borgensen. Carol is also survived by her beloved sister, Barbara (Gene) Snay. Her other beloved sister, Joan (Anthony) Ciarlone, was recently deceased. Carol felt blessed to grow up with both of her sisters who were her best friends. Additionally, she leaves behind her brother-in-law Anthony Ciarlone, two nieces, Nicolette (Brian) Avery and Deborah (Robert) Demarest and a nephew, Kevin Ciarlone. Carol worked for the New York Telephone company and the NYS Education Department. She retired from the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) as a Computer Systems Analyst after twenty five years of service. She made lifelong friends everywhere she worked. She felt fortunate to raise her children in Valatie in a great community where other lifelong friends were made. Carol loved the Adirondacks. She enjoyed hiking, skiing and biking. She biked through Ireland, California and all along the East Coast with her good biking friends. She loved to travel and always had a trip planned, whether it be to the ocean, the mountains or to Europe. She was an avid reader and passed that love on to her children. Carol touched many lives. She loved to laugh and have a good time. She was proud of her Irish heritage, but nothing surpassed her love for her daughters and their families. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Joseph Farooq of Troy for his compassion and support to Carol. Also, heartfelt gratitude goes out to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer and the staff on the sixth floor of Samaritan Hospital for the care and support they provided when it was needed most. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held for Carol on Tuesday morning at 10 AM St. Michael The Archangel Church on Williams road in Troy. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and may call at Wm. Leahy funeral home 336 Third Street Troy, on Monday from 3-7PM. For those who wish to make a contribution in Carol’s memory, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Albany Chapter, 421 New Karner Road, Albany NY 12205.
