Irving William Jensen

Irving William Jensen, 98, of Leland, NC, formerly of Lansingburgh, NY, died December 15, 2018. He was the son of the late Elizabeth Christensen Jensen and Niels Wilhelm Jensen. He was predeceased by his sister Ingeborg Moran, brother Ingolf, and his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Marie Edith Donnelly Jensen.Irv was born and raised in Lansingburgh, graduating from Lansingburgh High School in 1939. He entered the US Army in 1942 and served in Europe until 1945. While serving in the Army in N. Ireland, Irv met Marie Edith Donnelly. They married and their first child Ann was born there in 1945. In 1946 the family was reunited in the US. Irv worked for Behr Manning/Norton/Nashua Co's for 35yrs and retired in 1983.Camping in the Adirondacks started at an early age for Irv and continued for many years with Marie and their children. After retirement they enjoyed travelling in Europe and the US and visiting children and grandchildren. Other life long pleasures for both were music and dancing. They met at a Red Cross dance in 1943 and Irv's last dance was in November 2018 with his youngest daughter, Carol.For many years he was active in the former Immanuel Lutheran Church, Danish Brotherhood of America, Northeast Woodworkers Assoc., Behr Manning/Norton Retirees and more recently a member of the Masons and Lansingburgh VFW. Irv had a talent and passion for fine woodworking and shared his work with family and friends. He enjoyed outdoor activities including fishing, bocce ball and golf, and socializing with old and new friends. An especially good friend in later years was Margaret Davenport.Irving will be lovingly remembered by daughters Ann (Hal) Garrett, Elaine (Bill) Liebowitz, and Carol (Frank) Mahar with whom he lived for the past four years. He is also survived by grandchildren Elizabeth Garrett Mohr and Matthew Garrett, and great grandchildren Everett and Clare Mohr.A private interment will take place in Oakwood Cemetery at a future date.Those who desire may make a donation in Irv's memory to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401. http://www.lastingmemories.com/irving-william-jensen
