Mary Berkery Obituary

BERKERY, MARY TROY - Mary M. Berkery 91, of Troy entered into eternal life on Monday May 16, 2011 at the Eddy Heritage House in Troy. Born in Troy she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Nellie Ryan Berkery and sister of the late Joseph V. and John F. Berkery and Marjorie Berkery Shudt. Miss Berkery was a graduate of St. Mary's School in Troy and Catholic Central High School Class of 1937. She retired in 1979 from the New York Telephone Company in Albany as an assistant Traffic Supervisor Staff Switching Services. She began her career as an operator in Troy and then advanced through many management positions in both Troy and Albany during her 42 years of service. Mary was a life long parishioner of the former St. Mary's Church in Troy where she was also a member of the Alter-Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. She belonged to the Ladies Division of the A.O.H. , the Washington Park Friendly Seniors, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, the Telephone Pioneers of America where she held several offices in both the Active and Life Members Clubs, and for several years she devoted her time volunteering for the American Cancer Society.. Survivors include 6 nephews, Patrick D. John F. Jr., Brian J., Joseph M., and William R. Berkery and Michael R. Shudt, five nieces Cathy Jepsen, Patricia Quinn, Ann Smiley, Carol Heidelmark, and Marietta Pasanen, also survived by several grandnieces and grandnephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the Wm. Leahy Funeral Home 336 3rd St. Troy and at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated interment will follow in St. Mary's cemetery. Family and friends are invited and may call on Thursday from 4 - 7 pm at the funeral home.

To Mary: May the angels greet you at your new destination and know you will be missed by so many people, especially your family. To all the relatives, sorry for your loss! I will miss the many letters and cards sent throughout the years and the salutation: "kisses on all cheeks"!
